I am looking for any Pork with Rice in Barbeque Sauce MRE's that might be available for trade and/or sale. It is by far my favorite MRE, going back to my ROTC days in 1994. There were alot of good meals from that menu list that have since been discontinued, including Corned Beef Hash (always delicious with an over-medium egg on top) and Escalloped Potatoes and Ham. In my opinion, those MRE's were unparalleled and none have come close ever since. If you guys have any of the aforementioned meals, I'd be willing to pay top dollar.

Pork with Rice in Barbeque Sauce

It looks like the Pork with Rice in BBQ Sauce MRE had a pretty good run - 1988 - 1997. I'll have to dig through my collection and see how many of those I have. I'm pretty sure I tried one of those a couple of years ago - that one was from 1992 and it was still perfectly good.
I recall seeing an auction on ebay about six months ago - it was for a whole case of entrees (72) of "Meatballs, Beef and Rice, in Tomato Sauce". I was tempted to bid on it even though the case was 8-10 years old. But the wanted something like $80 for it and there's no way I'm going to pay $1+ for 10 year old entrees. Too bad he didn't have a case of the Pork with Rice entrees for you.

A couple of you have already asked for my wife's Hungarian Goulash recipe, so I will post it here for all to partake in! I does require a crock pot, and I'm sure that you'll find the finished result to be deliciously similar to the Pork w/ Rice in BBQ Sauce MRE. It was and still is my favorite MRE, thus this recipe has my resounding endorsement!
Prep time: 20 minutes.
Cook time: 8 to 10 hours on low (preferred) or 4 to 5 hours on high.
Finishing cook time: 30 minutes.
Servings: 4 to 6
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 pound pork, cut into bite size pieces
1 large onion, minced
1 can (14 and 1/2 ounces) ready-to-serve beef broth
1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
3 teaspoons chopped garlic (Christopher Ranch is the best)
1 tablespoon Worcesershire sauce
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 cup cold water
3 tablespoons all purpose flour
1 cup instant rice
Instructions:
1. Cook the pork in a skillet with the vegetable oil on medium heat until browned.
2. Place pork and minced onion into the crock pot.
3. Separately, mix together the beef broth, tomato paste, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, salt, and pepper. Then stir mixture into the pork and onions.
4. Cover and cook on low heat setting for 8 to 10 hours.
5. Cook instant rice.
6. Separately, mix water and flour together. Gradually stir into pork and sauce mixture.
7. Cover and cook on high heat for 15 minutes, add the rice, then cook on high heat for another 15 minutes.
Serve it up and enjoy! As a variant, this dish can be served over pasta or egg noodles.
I would love to hear any feedback after you guys have tried this as to any similarities or differences to the MRE. Happy eating!
