Looks to me like an early version of the Wornick civilian MRE. Check out the menus - the Ham Slice is a dead giveaway - they stopped making that one in 1999 so these babies are definitely pretty old.

Check this out: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 8754951810

"BRAND NEW" old MREs.

I wrote to the seller and explained that these were oldies. His reply:
there dated on the packs themselves 02/05 so they are pretty new but the owner was just telling that he purchased them 7 months ago and that they were a little older than that but they do still make the dark brown packages you just don't see very many of them.
I wrote back and asked him who still makes the dark brown packages. We'll see if he comes up with an answer.

That #12 MRE Escalloped Potatoes and Ham was phased out after 1996. And you're right about those brown bags - the last run of MREs with those was in 1995. Sure, there might have been a few extra laying around in 1996 but no way are they from 2005. The guy is either lying or he's dumb.

someone really should warn the bidders that these things are not remotely new... on the other hand, people really should gain a bit of knowlege about things before they go buying them on ebay... that's what sites like this are for isn't it? Hey, this site is on the first page when i search for "MRE" on google.ca... woohoo!

Ebay = Caveat Emptor................ In other words, all sales are final.

I always research all my purchases on the bay to ensure that I can't find it cheaper elsewhere or if the seller is full of it.

Ebay experiences

Post by BigMark » Mon Jan 23, 2006 11:32 am

Yeah.. the first time I bought on ebay, the auction had pix of real mres etc, only to find out its the repacks, the guy has changed it since then, I was one of his first customers.. might have actually been the first.. I forget.. he seems to have done well for himself, selling that crap with no side dishes and nothing but those big fig newton bars..

So did you try to get your money back on that auction? Got a link for one of the guy's current auctions so we can be aware of who he is?

I don't see it on ebay right now, but he sells them in a "bakers dozen" or whatever, buy 12 get 2 free or something like that.. they'll even be in a clear plastic bag in the picture, but you can only see the entree on the front, and he never really goes into detail whats in the packages.. that being said, it won't be labeled case A or B, just MREs.. scyrcos or something like that is the name.. wish I could remember more.

I think I know the guy you're talking about - seems like he's been selling those homemade/off-brand MREs for a while - always trying to sell them as 12+2 or something like that.

Too late -- I already got it with Buy It Now.

Sorry . . . I hate to gloat, but I'm just jazzed that I scored a whole case for this price.

[thinking to himself] So, let's see . . . sell four of these puppies on eBay for $10 apiece and I've covered the cost and shipping and I keep the rest for fun or whatever!
