Yeh I use the Crusader metal mugs - like GI canteen mugs but they fit on the bottom of our waterbottles. Got two actually, one for each bottle, one for drinking out of (black teflon) and a basic one for washing/shaving in - means no hairs in my hot chocolate 8)

Tried the Crusader cooking stand thing and the Greenheat gel fuel and wasn't impressed really, takes up more room in the pouch and the gel isn't that great. So I'm settled on Hexy (free from the CQMS :D and they put an adaptor for the Crusader mug on it) - I'm sure some lads like the whole set-up though, I've still got mine knocking around the house somewhere.

Thanks for the link to the burner stuff, will check it out when I got the time - didn't know if the RCIR burner was like a Hexy or not - didn't want to burn a hole in the bottom of everything

When im out camping on my bike, i use a small stove system called a Jetboil PCS, its basically just an aluminium cup with
A small butane burner stuck to the bottom.
But I have found it's great for heating MRE's and other types of "Wetpacks", it can boil water in a minute or so and it packs away nicely, its also fairly lightweight.

I hear alot of British forces lads use em during training ect, but if you get an airlift somewhere you would have to drop the butane cannister

I came, I saw, I ate some rations then fell asleep amongst the clover.

Mr. F

I agree wholeheartedly on the JETBOIL system. Had mine since 2005 and used it a bit when I was in Iraq. Mine has taken some beatings along the way but still comes through. Price has come way down since I first bought mine.

When the troops deploy, they take away penknives, scissors and butane lighters. Then they board the plane with their fully automatic m-4's. bayonets and ammo...

The troops are flying with civilian airlines on civilian planes to their deployment, so they have to follow civilian rules
But you can have a pocket lighter with you on board, although smoking is prohibeted at all flights Image

Our troops don´t have any weapons at hand when flying to Astan. They get them down there.

Back to jetboil, I heard about before at our German forum (lot´s of pic there  ). It also fits hand in glove to the Bundeswehr canteen cover.
I would give it a try, but prefer always my ESBIT coocker due to its lower storage consumption

I got my Jetboil from Jasper at www.strikeforcesupplies.co.uk, he is a real gent to do business with and it is relatively cheap. You may think it is pricey/big but considering its your cooking pot and stove and fuel etc all in one package I think it is worth it!

Jetboil is damned good for boiling water or putting one boil-in-the-bag (Brit 24hr ration) in, but I recently found that 2x boilies won't really fit very well (I reckon its only worth carrying one between two, as everyone has hexy as a 'just in case'). So I got the little support that you can use for supporting any pan for cooking (comes with some little tripod legs too) and just use my Crusader metal mug on there with 2 boilies in now, like I did with hexy only no black mess. The proper Jetboil pan still comes in useful for boiling water and other stuff, way more efficient than a mess tin or whatever.

The only problem is apparently you can't take gas on RAF planes and then you can't get replacement gas in country, so I'd need something different when its time to go on tour! I know those multi-fuel stoves are meant to be good at altitude and run off anything, but there again its probably simpler to just stick to hexy.
