WTS 1968 Case of Long Range Patrol MRE's

Post by MyDude » Sun Feb 24, 2019 9:50 pm

Hi All,

Just made an account to post these. I picked these up at an estate sale here in MS about a year ago just for fun, but decided to do a little bit of research before I opened them up (boy am I glad I did). After reading about them, I didn't think it would be fair if someone with just a passing interest got to be the one to open them. I found this board in my research, and figured this would be the place to start looking for a more fitting owner.

About them: These were manufactured on August 13th, 1968 by the Stockton Terminal Company. Their stock number is FSN 8970-926-9222. The case appears to have never been opened, and is sealed with wire. It contains 24 meals, with 3 each of 8 varieties. I'll try to post pictures below (I couldn't get them to post, but here is a link to an imgur album: About the owner: As far as I can tell, the deceased owner (RIP) was the original owner. The estate sale contained mainly personal military items, It didn't appear to be from a collector, as it mainly had 1 of each standard item (1 dress uniform, 1 pair of boots, etc.). If interested, I can contact the company that ran the estate sale to see if they can give more information.

In my search for info about these, I read the wikipedia article and a few random websites, but I'd love to hear more about them from the MRE experts around here! All I know is that they were one of the first, if not the very first, freeze dried rations, and that they were originally deployed in 1964 for special forces soldiers in Vietnam.

Cheers,
MyDude

Edit: Apologies for not listing a price, I'm just not sure what the price should be, since I haven't been able to locate a similar sale before. If I could itemize my tax deductions, I think I would just donate them to a museum, but here we are. I've seen entrees selling for $40-50, and meals from $60-$100, but never an unopened case. At this point, I'd say make me an offer, either in this thread, or pm me.

I edited my original post, but I'll say it here too:

Very cool. I'd be all over this like White on Rice if I wasn't up in Canada. Would be so stressed about bringing the whole unit across the border though.

I'd be willing on a) chipping in, or b) buying some individual packs, but alas: I'll just stare in wonder :)
All the best, Gents.
