I might steer clear of getting British ration packs from Surplus and Outdoors anymore. They are no longer shipping them in the military packaging, or are removing all military markings, sometimes damaging contents. I was in contact with them about it, and they were supposed to send me some empty boxes for display, but never did. The last few times I ordered from them it took a month and a half, when the previous four orders only took about a week. I don't know what happened, but it's really gone done downhill. I'm done using them.
Thankfully I haven't needed to use them for British rations, just gave it an example that would be relatively widely known. That experience you had is not ideal at all and it seems like something they should have notified people about
For sure! I had multiple dealings with them previously, and I was always very satisfied. Quick shipping, well packaged items. It was weird how all of a sudden it of changed for the worse. I asked them why they suddenly stopped shipping them in the intact military boxes (even before, they always ripped the top flaps off that said "MOD Property"), and told them that they might make some people mad if people are buying them for their collections, but they never responded.
Just to add to this discussion about Surplus and Outdoors, I ordered 2 British Rations and 2 French RCIR from them on 1/17/2017. The British Rations arrived in a similar state: sides of box cut off to remove markings, boxes had been opened and resealed. The RCIR rations are still in original plastic seal and appear to be unaltered. However the international shipping cost they charged was almost $100 US, which for the total weight of the shipment may not be too much above average but its making me lean toward trying to find sellers in North America in the future.

Yes, they are quite high on shipping cost. I didn't mind paying it when it arrived a week later like it did for so long, but now they charge the same amount and it takes a month and-a-half to arrive. I'm done with them.
