Where to buy MRE Tray Packs in 2016?
Where to buy MRE Tray Packs in 2016?
Hey guys! I found an old thread from 2010 about this same topic, but it didn't go past then and all the links there are either dead or those places don't have tray packs. About 3 or 4 years ago I purchased 5 different varieties of Tray Packs from theepicenter. I just opened the first one tonight for dinner (Tomato and Corn Casserole, it's really good!). Now that I know they'll last that long and taste good, I'd like to find some more. There seems to be an interwebz-wide shortage of them though, so I figured I'd come to the experts to see if anybody has a secret supply location for them.
Thanks!
Ben

Hi Ben, welcome to forums. Maybe someone else will have some ideas, because I know I haven't had any luck finding any in the past year. Every once in awhile one will pop up on eBay, but usually pretty old. Theepicenter is a great place to find other stuff, but they've been sold out of the trays for some time now. Good luck in your hunt, and let us know if you find a place that has them.

The Epicenter sent 100% of their tray stock overseas midway through 2015 for disaster relief. I've talked to them and they're not expecting anything new any time soon. If tray meals happen to be available again as surplus, they'll buy them up and have trays available. eBay's not really a great bet because they get crazy expensive. ArmySurplusWarehouse.com sells them as well, but like Epicenter they're currently out of stock on all trays. This may just be one of those things we need to wait and see on.
They're only meant to last 18 months, but I've had them as old as 6 years and they were still fine. I assume it depends on storage conditions and the meals themselves. Welcome to the forums by the way!

Damn. I was just about to post up a trade request for those. Getting sick of IMPs, so the last case would have been available for the right offer.

If you're adventurous, I have a few dozen trays, but they're all between 2007 and 2012. The newest ones I'd likely want to keep, so the adventurous part comes in if you'd like to trade for perhaps some 6-9 year old trays. I've been buying them in bulk and serving them at Burning Man for the past 6 or 7 years. Send me a PM if you're interested and I'll start putting together the list of what trays I'd trade or sell.

Re: Where to buy MRE Tray Packs in 2016?
I stopped in to a surplus store while visiting some family over the weekend, and they still have some of the tray meals for $17 each. They were mostly breakfast entrees (oatmeal, eggs and sausage?) but I didn't think to mark down dates or anything like that. If that's a decent enough price, I can pick some up the next time through.

There's a surplus store called The Army Surplus Warehouse near Idaho Falls, ID on route 15 that usually has a few varieties of tray packs. Last I was there they had them for $7 and $8 each - usually they only have 4 or 5 varieties.

I have been looking for some of these as well. I would love some of the breakfast ones you mentioned or any others if they are fairly newish.
Thanks

That secret supply location is (always) ebay.deBen E wrote: so I figured I'd come to the experts to see if anybody has a secret supply location for them.

If you don´t mind the postage + auction, I can get some for you and send them over. Non-meet tray rations (cakes etc) are never a probelm
