What price would one expect to pay for a case of new Wornick Eversafe MREs with 2011 or 2012 pack dates?
I'm trying to figure out how much profit retailers are making on these things. I contacted Wornick and inquired about their pricing in an attempt to determine whether it would be worth it or not to buy a 48 case pallet from them (minimum order) and re-sell what I don't keep for personal use.
Question about MRE prices
Re: Question about MRE prices
Retail goes for $75-80/case, wholesale maybe $55-$65 per.
So ~ $3000 a pallet + shipping.
This is only a guess, mind you...
AFAIC, there's too much money up front, and not enough profit in this.
Let us know how it comes out!

Re: Question about MRE prices
Wornick quoted me at $54 a case for 48 cases + $200 to ship if I bought wholesale. So total cost would come out to $2792, working out to $58.16 per case.
If I could sell them for $70 a case, I'd make $11.84 on each case, or $568.32 on the entire shipment if I sold them all. Hmm, I think you're correct on the cost/profit analysis. Doesn't really seem to be worth it unless one is able to consistently move large volumes in a timely manner. It could become a source of essentially free MREs since one could keep a case for every 5 sold at that price without losing anything. Selling 40 cases would result in keeping 8, which would cost nothing monetarily in the end.
Slinging around 48 cases of MRE would result in a good workout as well.
I've been on somewhat of an MRE kick ever since I won a unit in a storage auction back in October that had about 80 cases in it. There were only a few other people there, and nobody else saw the value of a room stacked full of MRE except 1 other guy who was at the facility to get his own stuff and didn't know there was an auction scheduled so he didn't have enough money on him to outbid me. I made a pretty decent return on investment since I only payed $186 for the entire unit and most of the MREs still had some time until their re-inspection dates. The unit was climate controlled as well, so much of the stuff that was even past the inspection dates was still good once I checked the lot numbers on the site here. I did have several open cases of meals packed around 2006 - 2009 that seemed to have spoiled, but it was but a fraction of the total. There were 9 military issue aluminum frame cots never used still in the original boxes in addition which more than paid for the cost of the entire unit by themselves.
Wish I could find more deals like that!
