Hey Kaz - thanks for posting.
$7 each isn't that bad of a price for singles - you shouldn't have trouble unloading them.
They might be 2012 issue, but are probably 2010 or 11. With a case, the way to tell is Date Pkd/Lot line on the side of the case. The format can vary - sometimes you'll see mm/dd/yy, sometimes mm/dd/yyyy and sometimes yddd. The Insp/Test date is NOT the date they were produced - it is three years down the road from the production date.
When you're just selling loose MREs, the way to tell their age is to look for a stamped four digit number on the package. The first digit is the last digit of the year, and the next three digits are the day of the year it was produced. For example if you brought back MREs from an FTX you just had and they say something like 1255 that means they're packed on the 255th day of 2011. The code could technically mean the 255th day of 2001 or 1991 as well, but the package style and the fact that you just got them in the field will prove they're more recent.
I'd suggest listing the pack dates for what you have available and just double checking that the TTI indicator on the package is still fine. There's also
this page with even more dating info in case I didn't make sense
