MRE Info First Strike Ration

Post by Treesuit » Wed Jan 12, 2011 12:51 am

Well everyone what I have here is our very own MRE Info First Strike Ration (Commercial version). I have this version for sale if anybody would like to sample this ration and give a honest review and feedback for the other members of the forum.

I originally had a idea about how we could get FSR's without having to pay the outrageous prices some people on ebay were asking or have them shipped from overseas. So awhile back I had some prototypes done up and this here is my third version, which should be a good sturdy, satisfying copy of the original(s).

Now here's the great part. This version is about 95% accurate, as far as, an original FSR currently on the market. Yep, that's right 95%! Now, some things I had to do a close substitution with some civilian items but that shouldn't deter anybody's decision....I hope? I studied the orginal menu's from current FSR's and searched long and hard to get all the items. A lot of stuff I got absolutely free, some other things I had to buy here an there but for those of us who want a ration that is strictly authentic then this is about as close as we're going to get and it's priced very reasonable.

So this will hopefully be a great experiment with some postive aspects later on down the road and hopefully provide some relief to the current market glut we all face on getting FSR's. Now, I do this as a experiment and if this project doesn't take off or I get enough "no's" then we'll let this fade away into the sunset but if it takes off I can make some more and spread then around for a small price. Please note I do this as a hobby and not a business so it does take some time to make one or a few and right now my supplies were wiped out because of the holidays. So it will take me some time to get more available but I will post updates on the forum and people can post replies or comments. Plus, I can't take special orders until I have more MRE items.

So this is a first come, first served item. Please PM me and payments can be made by paypal. Shipping in the US will be by flat rate mail, if I get somebody from overseas I'll check on the postage and try to be economical as possible. We all know how the postal are going nowadays.

Good Luck.... :D

Treesuit,

Looks good. Glad you went with a similar vaccuum pack method as I did when I prototyped mine.

How many menus will you ultimately think of doing and what are you asking for them?

For anyone who is interested in this, Treesuit REALLY put a lot of time, effort, and thought into this as we kicked packaging and content ideas back and forth. I think everyone will be very pleased with the contents!

Here is a link to the original thread which contains a pic of contents in his.

Thanks,

Mike

Great idea, indeed! I´m really interested in trying one out, because I´d love to get a FSR but due to the problems you described, Treesuit, it´s nearly impossible to get a genuine one if you don´t want to sell some of your organs.
Firstly, I´d like to be interested in the price, of course. Unfortunately I don´t have PayPal, but my brother does, so we would find a way for payment. It would be good if someone from Europe, even better someone from Germany would hop on board, so we could eventually split shipping costs.

Hannonmc,

Right now I have two ideas for menu's entree's. If I can get some suggestions from other people I will explore and test those out as well. I always like a little variety in meals, I'm sure everybody does as well. My price right now is $10.00 per meal. That's to cover the packaging and some costs in buying the hard-to find items. I've had two inquiries so far from the folks in canada, and I wish I could help people on the shipping but it is what it is. I noticed that after Jan 2, 2011 the USPS flat rate shipping for overseas did come down some in price so that might help.

And you right this last model I put some more thought into it.

Homer Jay,

I agree with you on shipping; if you could get somebody to split the cost with you I think two FSR's could fit into a medium flat rate box so the shipping wouldn't be so drastic and if you find somebody that does have paypal that will work. Since the bags are vaccumed the bulk invloved would be reduced. Price would be the same at $10.00 USD.

And with everybody else comments are always welcome.

Thanks for the detailed info, Treesuit! 10 Dollars per bag is a more than good price, but my main concern are the shipping prices and costums. I just checked the USPS shipping prices and as far as I can see they want 44 Dollars for a medium box, so for 2 FSRs the price would be around 65 Dollars (around 50 Euros) and it really is a tad too much for me alone. Also I´m not sure if German costums would tear through the package to find "forbidden" constituents, which would be really a shame.

Homer Jay,

Well, nothing is impossible: especially when shipping rations overseas. Also you have to "re-word' the customs label sometimes. If you couldn't afford say the shipping and price then trades are always welcome. I never turn down an offer for another ration from another country. So just keep that in mind or if you want just one that might ease the burden some.

I did get some MRE parts in last night so hopefully I will have enough to make more this weekend. So far the response has been very postive as to this idea. Plus one member has put in an order with me for two FSIR's. But the most concern has been people from overseas and the shipping: what can I say, I'll try an work with anybody on the shipping but there is really nothing I can do about it.

Hi Treesuit!!!-
Brother, I am very impressed with your project. Exactly how much do you want for these? i am most definately interested, as i don't make a lot of cash, and my MRE supply has been wiped out, due to prevailing inability to get a better job. I just don't feel like spending the cash on a full case, as i never buy seperate meals on their own. your FSrs are more economical , IMHO. I'm gonna take some time to stack up some cash and them PM you either on here or on ebay( just checked out your MRE components. you should get a medal for reasonable prices). Keep up the good work, sir.
