Post by SAR1 » Mon Jul 07, 2008 5:30 pm

Hello all as some of you know I have an upcomming Search and Rescue mission and was wondering if anybody had any Menu C MRE's for sale or just plain MRE's. Thanks.

Try MREDepot and you'll be able to get them from the source.

Alternatively, have you looked into MREFoods? Darren is local to you, all his prices include shipping (even if he weren't local,) and the proceeds from that site are claimed to benefit a non-profit. Granted, what he has insofar as assembled MRE's are military or Menu Cs, but he has the most of the critical components that go into a USGI MRE.

I'm not really sure why it is so critical that it be a military MRE for your SAR games though. Especially since it is food that is going to be consumed in a relatively short time span after it is acquired. While our local SAR group once had a few MRE afficionados, most of them have gone over to using commercially available retail components for their 24 and 72 hour packs.

If it has to be MRE menu Cs, the MREDepot link that I gave you above should take you there. http://www.mredepot.com/servlet/the-270 ... eal/Detail

Not sure why the civilian MREs won't suit your needs, but I am aware that there are some people that just have to have the military ones for one reason or another. The Menu C's are military, but if it will suit your needs, you can get them directly from the vendor.

Are the civilian MREs you've been eating the same ones from Ameriqual, Sopakco, etc.? It seems like those use the exact same components as the military MREs...they just usually have a bit less for and not quite as much variety.

Ah, ok - that's definitely some kind of odd civilian wanne-be ration. But the ones you'll find listed here:

http://www.mreinfo.com/civilian/mre/civilian-mres.html

are definitely very close to the military versions and use the exact same parts (mostly).

TheEpicenter.com, MREfoods.com, and MREDepot.com are some good places to check for those.

This sounds like you had Mountain House? This is nothing like the Civi ones avail per kman's link.

I was actually thinking of something like the "Sure-Pak Entree" from Summit Foods as you can see in the pic below. I'm not sure if that's related to Sopakco, but I think this was a very old (late 90s?) civilian ration.

It might not be what SAR1 had, but when he mentioned a mountain logo, that's what I thought of.
