A question about advertising

Post by kman » Sat Feb 17, 2007 12:21 pm

You may have noticed on the new Civilian MREs section that I've added a Google AdSense ad bar to the right side of the screen. I've also added it in a few other places (such as Buying MREs) for testing.

I wanted to get some feedback from you guys as to what you thought about it.

My main goal isn't so much to drive revenue (because if that was the goal, I'd plaster ads all over every page) but to enhance some of the pages. I don't feel so bad about advertising on the Buying and Civilian MREs pages because those pages are mostly geared towards people looking to purchase things anyway and if Google AdSense does its job, the displayed ads should be relevant.

I won't deny that a little extra change from the ads is nice - it helps offset the cost of hosting the site, but it really isn't my primary motivation here.

So I'd be interested in hearing back from you guys as to what you think. Does it cheapen the site? Enhance it? Do you really care one way or the other?

Thanks,

kman

Don't have a problem with it myself. :D All you are trying to do is make it easier for you to run the website. Keep up the good work on one of the best sites on the net.

No problem here. I would put up a link to PayPal for donations as well. Some of us like DangerousDave have a lot of money looking for somewhere to donate it for a tax write off...LOL!

How you doin, DD?

No complaints here! Websites like this aren't easy to run and you've done great so far on your own... Besides the google ads are pretty unobtrusive with the color scheme and all

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I'm just glad to hear you don't find it too irritating.
