The website and forums will be DOWN on FRIDAY night, Feb. 8, 2008, for 8 hours.

I just heard from my webhost provider that they'll be relocating the servers that host MREInfo.com this Friday, February 8, 2008, starting at 10pm PST (1am EST Saturday morning). During the move, all website, forums, news, and email access will be down.

The outage *should* last no longer than 8 hours (9am EST, Saturday) but don't be surprised if the site either comes up earlier or takes a lot longer to come up.

During the outage, the regular mreinfo.com email addresses won't work. The best way to get hold of me when the site is down is to use this email address:

mreinfo at yahoo.com

Regarding the outage tonight...if things get really screwed up or if you have any questions, regular mreinfo.com email addresses won't work. The best way to get hold of me when the site is down is to use this email address:

mreinfo at yahoo.com

You know Kman, you're driving BigMark and I crazy with all these multiple postings, right?

But let me run outside and raise my Hurricane Warning flag.......just in case! :D

(Hurricane Party at the Kman residence tonight everybody!)

My recommendation is to hunker down tonight around 7pm with a case of MREs, a flashlight, plastic sheeting, and duct tape and hope for the best. If the site isn't up by 3am, head out to the nearest 24 hour Wal-mart and buy up all the milk, bread, and batteries you can! Don't be distracted by all the other crazies wondering around Wal-mart at 3am...you're the only one there who really isn't crazy.

Yep; milk, eggs, and bread: The top 3 food items the general population seems to always run to the market for to stock up on in the face of impending disaster.

Just goes to prove: When the going gets tough, the tough eat French Toast!

I myself will be enjoying my "French Toast" in the morning with some of MREDepot's canned butter, along with a freeze-dried Pork Chop or two.....BURP! :P

"Disaster"?! What disaster?? 8)

Ok guys...you can stand down from your emergency preps for the imminent mreinfo.com outage. :-)

Upon closer reading of the outage notice (meaning...I'm a doofus), I now see the outage is scheduled for NEXT Friday, Feb. 8, 2008.

:D When I first saw this notice, I thought "How interesting, my own provider has alerted me to a similar outage to take place exactly one week later..."

...But now it turns out it's the same night. Are you hosted by DreamHost?

Yes, I'm using Dreamhost. They've been a great provider so far - outages haven't been too bad and you can't beat the price/storage/bandwidth.

Then again...this is the first time my cluster has moved so hopefully it'll all go smoothly...and quickly.

I've been happy with them as well. (I did get double-billed in the crazy billing mess that happened earlier this month, but they got that cleaned up pretty fast.)

My site, which is far less interesting than this one, is http://home.alanpics.com . It's just pictures, mostly of community theater productions. Can't hold a candle to Indian MREs :(

Yeah, I got hit with that double-billing, too. Still need to check my CC to see if the refund went through for it.

BTW...here's YET ANOTHER update to the fiasco that this warning notice is quickly turning into. :-(

Not only did I mess up the date, but I did my PST to EST conversions backwards. :-) The site is going down at 10pm PST Friday night...which is really 1am Saturday morning EST. Max downtime is 8 hours but instead of screwing up that math, I'll leave it to you guys to figure out the up time based on your timezone.

For all our non-US members, I can only imagine how much fun this is for you to covert. :-)
