MRE Info - now there really is an app for that!

I'm happy to annouce the "MRE Info" iPhone app is now available for free in Apple's iTunes store. This app will work with any Apple iPhone or an iPod Touch using a wireless connection. An internet connection is required because that's how it updates its information.

Here's the direct link to iTunes and some screenshots:

And here's the official description:
MRE Info

A handy reference to keep you up-to-date on information about "Meals, Ready-to-Eat", or MREs.

In addition to complete menu listing of all MREs going back to 1981, you'll also find menus for foreign military rations and an MRE-related newsfeed.

MREs are the main operational ration for the US military. They are "ready-to-eat" meals in that all components are fully cooked and ready to consume. Typical contents include an entree, side dish, crackers, peanut butter/cheese spread, dessert, instant coffee, matches, toilet paper, spoon, and heater to warm the main entree.

MREs aren't just for the military anymore and have long been a favorite of campers, hikers, and families wanting to store food for emergency preparedness. When natural disasters such as hurricanes or earthquakes strike, MREs are often used to feed those affected.

This app provides a complete reference for all the MREs menus. There are 24 different menus, or flavors, of MREs. While the main entree is marked on the outside of the bag, the other contents remain a mystery until you open it. With this app, you'll have a listing of all the contents of every MRE so if you're looking for that elusive Pop-Tart, you'll know exactly which MRE to grab.

Other features include:

- Other US military rations menus: First Strike Rations, MCWs, etc.
- Rations menus from other countries: Great Britain, Germany, France, etc.
- Information on civilian MREs
- How and where to purchase MREs
- A news feed with the latest MRE-related news.

This app requires an Internet connection. 3G, Edge, or Wi-fi will work.

A few people have emailed me asking when I'll have an app available for the Motorola Droid. I don't have a definite date right now but as soon as my iPhone app developer (appmakr.com) adds support for the Droid, I'll do my best to get a copy of the app out for that platform, too.

Sweet Kman, I would love to have it for the Droid. Then maybe I would have time to post again.

Sent you an email about this kman, I see now who your app maker is. I thought you were the one who created it. I was going to say you are pretty damn smart if you can put an app like that together. I looked at all the dev tools from Apple and my head just about exploded. The app looks great but waiting for an optimized iPad version....one that I don't have to scale up and lose the res with.

Excellent tool for us that are out and about and need some quick info on MREs.

Thanks for making it FREE also, although, I would have paid you $.99 for it...:)
