Buck Rogers

Post by jfko6 » Sat Mar 15, 2008 3:56 pm

I came across this opening sequence to the 1979-1980 Buck Rogers syndicated show on YouTube. Who didn't like Buck Rogers.

Here you see Buck's shuttle launch and a brief mishap sends Buck Rogers out of his trajectory and returns him to earth "500 years later."

Seeing the clip you see his ship launched in the year 1987 and return 2491. This show definitely brings back memories.

But if you do the calculation:
Launch - Return = Result
1987 > 2491 = 504 years :?:
This video and many similar were squashed by YouTube. However, you can see the full episodes at Hulu.Com. The made for TV movie (the revised theatrical version) is titled The Awakening - it has the opening intro. and, if interested, you'll see that the answer to this math puzzle is correct if this video is not already removed. http://www.hulu.com/watch/14898/buck-ro ... ing-part-1

Updated 12.26.17. New link.

jfko6, I don't know if you meant to enclose that URL with the URL tags, but if you just paste in the link as it is and don't tag it, the forums will automagically link up the video so it can be watched in the thread without having to go to YouTube. I modified your post above to do that. If you meant it to be the original way...sorry about that...feel free to reapply the "URL" tags to kill the direct video feed.

But back to your clip...

Man, that sure does bring back the memories! I loved that series. Who couldn't get enough of Wilma Deering (Erin Gray)! I was actually thinking about Buck Rogers (the show, not the dude) a few days ago. I was thinking about current TV shows and I was wondering how they'd look 10-20 years from now. And for some reason Buck Rogers popped into the my head and I remember that one companion he ended up with - Hawk. At the time, I guess it all made sense...bird-like guy with bird-like ship...but it sure seems pretty lame now.

Here's another YouTube clip...this guy remixed stuff from the first Buck Rogers movie to create a modern-day-like trailer. It's pretty good stuff:

KMAN:

I saw an extensive interview of Tim Conway. The interviewer asked him what happened to Television. And went to talk about the downgraded content of programming that is being delivered to our children (a concern of Fred Rogers). The dialogue is bad, its not real comedy, the shows are just stupid he said and gave some of his own personal reasons for its decline and so on.

The concept of Buck Rogers is not dated though the show may seem so.

Who can forget the Pilot episode and the scene of Old Chicago (Anarchia) and its city dwellers. And Hawk was the dude at the time.

Sadly, Gil almost died from obesity and its associated complications.
I can't find the whole documentary which I previously viewed.

Very true. I'd even argue that "Farscape" was loosely based on Buck Rogers...but instead of returning to Earth, the character enters another universe/galaxy/whatever. I didn't catch on to Farscape until it was 3 or 4 seasons in, but I loved it once I got hooked. I can see a little bit of Gil Gerard in Ben Browder's character. Ben was great in Farscape and in his short run in Stargate SG-1.

Planet of the Slave Girls - Part 1

Post by jfko6 » Sat Mar 15, 2008 5:45 pm

Attached is a full video stream of the original Buck Rogers series with Gil Gerard. Notice the opening sequence. You'll see a brief clip of the original Buck Rogers (Buster Crabbe) flying cockpit next to Buck's starfighter.

Enjoy

I think the best episode of Buck Rogers was the one with the space vampire..
He turns Wilma Deering into one..
The moans she made during the episode were stuff boys dreamed about..
Rather erotic for the time..

I still think Erin Gray is hot..
