World War 1 -- 100 years later in film

Post by jfko6 » Tue Jul 22, 2014 10:35 am

It is the 100th anniversary of the beginning of World War 1 which began July 28, 1914 and ran for 4 years. An armistice peace was attained in November 1918.
National Geographic is beginning a new series Apocalypse World War 1. Check your local listing for showtime. NG will have a next showing Wednesday, July 23 @ 8:30 P.M.

A 1979 remake of the film starring Ernest Borgnine was generally well received. Having seen the remake and in comparison of the two, the orignal film was better. However, the remake was not a shabby film and generally good having elements not seen in the first but depicated in the book. Neither film did justice to the horrors outlined in the book.

"All Quiet on the Western Front is a television film produced by ITC Entertainment, released on November 14, 1979, starring actors Richard Thomas of The Waltons fame as Paul Baumer, and Ernest Borgnine as Katczinsky. It is based on the book of the same title by Erich Maria Remarque."

All Quiet on the Western Front starring Ernest Borgnine is available on DVD and Amazon streaming video for $2.99.
The DVD's are being sold out in anticapation of the 100th anniversary. I doubt Fry's will even have it.
