We did a trip to Normandy, France, to participate the 80th D Day anniversary. "We" were a party of seven and we traveled 10 days.
June 5th, the (German) Battery at Azeville, was an airborn airdrop:
Each Battery had 4 of those casemattes, housing a 105mm gun and were firing at Utah beach.

Most amazing to me:
a 356mm shell uf the US battleship "Nevada" hit into that casematte
the remains of that shell
that shell hit thru three walls
and killed its whole crew

Re: 80th D Day Normandy France
On my way home from Normandy, I did a stopp over in Verdun, France. Verdun is famous in military history for its fierce fights and hundreds of thousand killed soldiers. There are lot´s of historic places to visited and lot´s of fortifications to see, mostly heavily bombed and destroyed. In the south is one Fort, that was never bombed so it´s still in it´s original condition and you can go inside and walk every where. All items are still originals, very impressing to see, how the (French) soldiers lived and fought +100 years ago
