This is MVD* ration, not Russian Army ration. Google translate it as caviar beause in russian part of the name for this dish is IKRA, a word in most slavic languages meaning fish egs = caviar. This is first time I see someone heating it up, I mean boil it. Usually it's eaten cold as it is.

*MVD: Ministry of Internal Affairs: Police, Traffic Police, Federal Drug Control Service, Federal Migration Service...

Good to know, I was told it was a Army IRP. So the side dishes that come with Russian ration are to be eaten room temp?

There was a talk about russian rations lately here viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7214

About vegetable puree there is this short but quite informative article http://www.vegelicacy.com/blog/13/squas ... able-paste

I believe room temp is the best, you can still spread it on the crackers. I like to mix it with kasha, it gives it more life.
