US MCW (2012) - Beef Stew (Menu 07)

Hi guys!

This is my second MCW review, this time I tried menu 07 which is Beef Stew. As usual there are two versions of my video: one in Hungarian (for all those masochists) and the other in English. Enjoy!

Hungarian: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3irZHVPvEI

In English: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=709yaIic6so

Pro:
+ The oatmeal cookie was wonderful. Actually the chocolate coating was the best part, but it worked out very well with the cookie. Crunchy, sweet, a little bitter. Very tasty.
+ I made an experiment and the result was actually very good. I tried the coffee out with less water and I really liked it. This is the way it should be consumed.

Con:
- The main entrée was bland, had no flavor. I had to use the Tabasco sauce and since I do not like hot food very much, it was a let down for me.
- There was no salt and pepper. Should be! (This is a con from the last time, I will not touch it)
- I really hoped that the lemon-poppy seed pound cake will be a blast, but it had neither lemon nor poppy seed flavor. Just some crumbly, sweet sponge. Very underwhelming.
- The pouch of the beverage base had a little hole and it leaked. I demand better quality control!

Overall it was a good menu and a very filling menu, but this was the second MCW I found very bland. Maybe it is me or all freeze dried menus are the same, but please recommend me an MCW menu and I will try it out. Thanks.

The Asian beef or teriyaki are very tasty and flavorful.

Freeze dried food looses a lot of flavor, salt usually makes up for it to bring some back, but they can be bland out of the package

Thanks for the review!

Beef teriyaki with Rice or Scrambled eggs with bacon? Decisions, decisions... Maybe I should flip the coin or make a poll about it :D

Depends on if you feel like breakfast or lunch...but personally, I'm with elandil - the Beef Teriyaki! That scrambled eggs w/ bacon still gives me shudders thinking about the old MRE Omelet.

I'll vote beef teriyaki too if you're taking a vote.

Thank you for sharing the review. I do what you do too - cut off the top of the LRP/MCW pouch instead of using the tear notch. I recommend pushing in the corners at the bottom of the pouch before adding water. Just pressing on the corners while it's all still dry breaks up those zones very efficiently. Then stirring normally from the top ends up getting everything wet much more easily.

Those cookies with the chocolate flavored coating are one of my favorite ration items. They've been making them for almost 40 years now in that format and I've gotta say I've yet to find one that's spoiled. Thanks again for sharing, always a pleasure!
