Lithuanian Dry Ration - Variant No. 5

Post by MREHungary » Sun Apr 17, 2016 4:18 pm

Hi guys!

This Friday I was not in the mood to cook anything and I really wanted to try out something new, so this Lithuanian ration came very handy. I have other Lithuanian rations in my stockpile, so other videos will follow, but here is my first try on these Baltic field rations:

In Hungarian: https://youtu.be/Blx24CgR-Ac

In English: https://youtu.be/pkJmRVT4-g4

Pro:
+ The chocolate was the highlight of the whole meal. It was smooth, not so bitter, almost melted in my mouth. The real MVP!
+ I do not know if the coffee was that good or the vast amount of sugar sweetened up the whole situation, but I really enjoyed it. And I am not a coffee drinker guy, so that is really something from a coffee.
+ The package is very neat. It is small, compact and very straightforward.
+ The ration heater did an outstanding job. It is a slow starter, but the end result was perfect.

Con:
- The main entrée was bland. Almost tasteless. And I was missing the salt and the pepper from the package to spice up my ... dish.
- The beverage had a great smell when it was mixed into the water, but had no flavor afterwards. Just an orange colored water with Vitamin C.
- The package had four salty, cumin flavored crackers, but they did not harmonized well with the apricot jam. Two salty and two sweet crackers would have been better.
- I do not understand why are there two heater units in the package. The FRH could stay and the tray should be replaced with a hot beverage bag. IMHO.

All-in-all I am not happy with this ration, it was a disappointment. I am a little sorry for the Lithuanian soldiers who must eat this, but I think on the battlefield this would taste better. But I am optimistic and I have hope that the other ration will be better.

Great review, love the "Rock or Something" That tray you have is really interesting - is it homemade?

I wish I would be that talented with wood. :) I searched for a plastic/metallic tray in my city, but without any luck. I found this in a gift store, they sold it for snacks and what so ever.

My "Rock or Something" is a large block of salt, rock-salt to be more specific. My father brought it from Transylvania from a salt mine. I have for nearly 15 years and now I found a purpose for it. :D
