Hey Guys,

I am new here and I plan to start doing condensed and concise ration reviews and hopefully with a more technical angle, using stuff like thermal cameras and vacuum cambers. I love the great ration reviews that are on YouTube today, I hope to contribute with a slightly different angle.

Here is my first review. I just picked up a survival ration off eBay from the Cincinnati Association of the Blind. I have no idea why these guys made or sponsored these rations. I don't even know the age...... I tried everything and I am still tasting the chicken broth that I had 24 hours ago

The can opened easily enough with the provided key. I got a puff of gas when the seal was broken, it smelt fine, no foul odors. Inside was 2 Rice / Cornflake bars from Van Brode Milling Company, 1 Chocolate Fudge bar and 1 cherry fruitcake bar. It had one sugar (powdered), one Type 2 instant coffee both were decent. And it had a Chicken Broth / Gravy mix and this was the worse looking but best testing. The oil from this packaged leaked out.....and coated everything.

The Javits–Wagner–O'Day Act, first passed in 1938, requires federal agencies to get certain types of supplies from companies and nonprofit agencies who employ people who are blind or have other significant disabilities. You'll see everything from pens and pencils, some military apparel items, cleaning products, to paper plates and toilet paper produced under this act. Typically, they are "Skilcraft" branded products, though there are some major labels who participate in the program (Avery, Rayovac, others) who carry the "AbilityOne" label on their own packaging.

Hey great! I didn't know that. Do you want to speculate the age of the rations that I ate? 1950's? 1960's??

The Cincinnati FPSGP is between 1968-1982. I found some Natick Food Labs stock photos here on digital commonwealth - you have one that was made between 1976-1982.

Nice item - less & less are floating around as time goes on. $20 or less for one is a good deal.

I will show ya some different generations of the FPSGP, first is from 1968 (maybe earlier I can check an old QM report), second is 1980ish, third is 1990, and fourth is about 1992-1995 before the most modern cardboard box version where the Wintergreen Bar was replaced by Wintergreen Tablets.

Thanks Steve, I actually watched your video on this yesterday!!! I am still learning.

I do have a modern fpsgp with date code 1110. I look forward to that. I am still gathering my equipment!!
