Interesting videos of the Epa's German rations...

Post by Bypah » Tue Jul 19, 2011 10:08 pm

I found these on youtube. They look like they were posted by someone of the forums...
They are in german.
In video #2 they mention how these rations were sent to the victims of Katrina in New Orleans. Too bad that none of these were given to the people in need and instead where thrown away or simply not used for what it was intended. :(

Enjoy!

IIRC, Most, if not all rations from europe were either refused entry, or were destroyed... It was because of hoof and mouth disease (or maybe Mad Cow, can't remember which)
A few rations slipped thru the cracks, though.

I think it was Mad Cow disease but is ilogical to think that the european allies would have sent tainted food.  Is illogical....
If a situation happens in another part of the world ...Should they throw away the HDR's and other emergency aid sent by the US?
It was a stupid decision though.

According to wiki, the rations were certified BSE free, which later was found to be not true...Some people died in Germany.
Nobody here died from BSE because of that 'Stupid Decision'...

When it comes to things that toxic, it's always safer to prevent, as there is NO cure!

Most of the rations that were sent here where vegetarian, at least the UK rations. :? Plus they should have simply refused the aid before it came to the US. avoiding all that waste of food and money.  That's why IMHO I consider it was a stupid decision, allowing all that to be wasted. But it happened and let's hope they learned the lesson.

Second.Plenty of workers ate those rations. From Germany and the UK and so far 6 years later no one came infected with BSE...
Yes, there is way to prevent the BSE. The issue with the BSE was that they were feeding the cattle meat!!!! In the feed they were mixing bones, cartilage and other parts and the cows are vegetarian not carnivore.

I know. That's what I was trying to say. They would not give tainted food to their troops or their civilians or give it away as emergency aid.
It was all part of the bureaucratic "red tape" decisions of the political administration back then.Of course they would not say that and rather exploit the BSE scare at the time.

I´m "sorry" to disagree BUT NOBODY over here died from having rations :!:

BSE is known since the 19th century at cows and since 1920(!) at humans called "vCJD" = variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.
Humans infection is 80% from eating beef of sick cows. The germs are in the nervous parts like brain and spinal cord.
The rest are genetic disorders.
That BSE-"hype" came up in 1995 and since that time, alle our beef was proofed BSE-free. In 1994 the feeding of cows with "meat and bone meal" became prohibited to prevent infection of cows.

All our soldiers were eating the same EPas and even the American soldiers in Astan got them and NOBODY got anything

Why the US government refused the foreign aid I don´t know. But it sounds good to say it wasn´t save so they prefered to let their own peoples "starve".

The Embalmed beef scandal Spanish American war

Post by biscuits brown » Thu Jul 21, 2011 2:22 pm

This is probably the best known example of the issuance of adulterated and contaminated army rations in modern times.

This experience directly brought into existence the Pure Food Act, the FDA and modern food regulatory bodies in the U.S
