So, after polishing off the last bits of the Russian ration, it's time for me to bust open a an RCIR! I've wanted to try one of these for a while, so i'm pretty excited.

Let's start with a bunch of photos!

It's a decently packed ration, plenty of cool looking stuff. Lots of little bars, which I find interesting. The full contents of the ration are:

Strasbourg Sausage Pasta (300g tin)
Paella (300g tin)
Wild Boar Pate with Cognac (78g tin)
Asian Soup (20g pack) - I'm not sure what to expect from this, it's a bit of a general name
Vanilla Milky Dessert (125g tin) - Again, not sure. I'm assuming it's some kind of yogurt type thing?
Biscuits - 6 salted, 6 chocolate, 6 cereal (200g box)
Chocolate Muesli (100g pack)
Apricot Jam (25g pack)
Fruit Nougat Bar (30g)
Coffee Bar (21g) - I think that's what it is, at least
Apricot Cereal Bar (21g)
Raspberry Fruit Bar (30g)
Dark Chocolate Bar (25g)
Mango Tea Isotonic Drink Mix (30g, mixes to 500ml)
2x Coffee (2g pack)
Hot Chocolate (20g pack)
Tea bags (1x Black Tea, 1x Green Tea Mint)
2x Sugar (5g pack)
2x Salt & Pepper
Napkins - Decent size pack of them, actually
Esbit Stove
6 Fuel tablets
Pack of Matches
Rubbish bag
6x Water Purification Tabs
Foldable Spork

So, that's the ration! It's exciting to be doing this again!

i think its meat paella, probably chicken or rabbit, but paella is a really hard dish to do well, little people do it well even in spain... So having a french, mass-produced, canned paella... it scares me a bit XD poor soldiers...

I decided to kick off the ration with a simple breakfast of Muesli and the Apricot cereal bar. The muesli can be prepared hot or cold, so I went with hot water. I had planned to eat it in the pack, but decided on a bowl as it was a little easier.

The smell was really good, sweet and wholesome, with a faint whiff of chocolate to it. I dropped in the required amount of hot water and the chocolate chips almost immediately melted and mixed with the milk powder, making warm chocolate milk.

I tried the spork that came with the kit, but honestly it was useless, so i'm using a Russian spoon here. The instructions said to stir it for 3-4 minutes, so that's what I did. It was difficult not to dig right into this thing, i'll be honest. Eventually I got around to tasting it, and it was pretty damn nice. Warm, the muesli was slightly chewy where it had started to soften. There were little chunks of apple in it to offset the sweetness from the chocolate. All-in-all, it was a really nice breakfast. I'm not really a muesli eater, so I don't have a frame of reference for it, but i'd happily eat this again, so I suppose that's good!

After that, I went for the Apricot bar. Apricot is one of my favourite fruit flavours, so I was all over this thing.

No surprise here that I really liked this. Really nice smell to it, and a decently bold apricot taste. It was chewy, but in a good way - It forces you to take your time eating it.

I have absolutely no complaints about this bar, or this breakfast overall really... Other than the shitty spork. Next up is lunch, which I guess means that canned Paella. I'm a bit nervous about that one. Still, off to a good start!

You're right with the muesli. I had it in my RCIR No. 1 too and it tastes delicious. I eat it cold. It was the best muesli i had so far in rations.

I think the only muesli that tops the French stuff is the Danish chocolate muesli.
