This review will be in two parts, the second part will be posted in the comments some time tomorrow!
I purchased this British 24 hour ORP from GoArmy (UK reviewers, I would recommend!), and it turned up pretty quickly, thanks to next day delivery.
This being menu 18, it came with the following:
-Bean and Pasta Salad
-Sausage Casserole
-Cinnamon Roll
-Chocolate Brownie
-Various beverage powders (Including cola, tropical, orange and apple)
-Various snacks (Nut Mix, Sesame Seed bar, Apple, Mango and Banana Fruit Pocket, Cranberry Cereal Bar and Oat Digestive Biscuits)
-Hot Diggity Dog Hot Pepper Sauce
-Cheese Spread and Peanut Butter
-Accessory Bag (two instant coffee, two tea bags, four creamer, four sugar, two antibacterial wipes, six water purification tablets and a small bag of weatherproof matches)
I started with breakfast, for which I had the cinnamon roll, the sesame seed bar and the tropical beverage powder.
The cinnamon roll was a pleasant start, with a moist centre and a delicious, strong cinnamon filling. The bread itself wasn't overly sweet which contrasted nicely. I found that the edges were quite dry, however, but was still perfectly palatable.
The tropical beverage powder, which I mixed with 400ml water (it was recommended 500ml but I prefer a stronger drink) had a definite "fake" taste to it. Very bittersweet as it hit the throat, with a vague chemical aftertaste. It had a strong hint of pineapple and mango to it which was quite nice, but the bitter chemical overtones made in somewhat unpleasant. I was warned in advance by other users that the silver foil sachets were of lower quality than the tan ones, and I have to agree!
I followed up with the sesame seed bar. It had become stuck together and quite hard so it was a challenge separating it and eating it! I managed half of it before giving up on it as it was extremely difficult to eat, despite having a pleasantly savoury and sweet flavour, almost nutty.
Moving on to dinner, I was really looking forward to the sausage casserole. I was going to have that, the chocolate brownie and the mint hot chocolate. A perfect combination for autumn!
The sausage casserole was, frankly, fantastic! it took ten minutes to boil and was perfectly cooked through. Very rich and hearty, with three thick sausages and a generous helping of potato, carrots, onions and peas. The gravy was delicious, savoury and thick. Overall, I would be very, very happy to have this particular meal again, it was very moreish!
The mint hot chocolate was also very good. It asked for 500ml water but I mixed it with 350ml, and I'm glad I did. Any more water and it would have been far too diluted for my tastes. It didn't need any additional milk or sugar, it was perfect as-is. Nicely minty, not too overpowering.
It was a wonderful accompaniment to the brownie, which was incredibly rich and sweet, though with a fine, slightly gritty texture due to what I think is the sugar content. It was dense and chocolatey, a great sweet treat to end the day.
So, to summarise, so far, so good! This ORP is of very good quality, if you overlook the beverage powders, perfectly satisfactory and filling, with some great meals that are comforting and wholesome. I'll be having the bean pasta salad and some more of the beverages and snacks over the course of tomorrow, so I'll have a full summary then.
Thanks for reading! Sorry this was such a long review!
