2014 IMP #9 Shepherds Pie

(Sorry no screenshots yet, will update with them later...)

So, thanks to BlackDogBob, I was able to try a 2014 #9 IMP Shepherds pie. It was a rather interesting meal, very tasty, with a few suprises. The meal consisted of:
Shepherds Pie entree
Sliced Peaches (in a box marked Dessert...)
M&M's
Peanut Butter
Honey
Hamburger Bun
Beef Jerky
Ketchup
Franks Hot Sauce
Frost Gum
Pineapple Orange sports Drink
Coffee in the form of a Nescafe 3-in-1 pack
Tea bag
Whitener
Sugar
Matches
wet nap
and the spoon and napkin.

To start with, the entree came out pillowed. This had me kinda concerned, but it passed the big 3 (sight, smell, and taste) after heating, so it was good to go.

The coffee was good, but i'm used to the Nescafe packets, having carried them camping several times. I'm still partial to the Kopiko Brown Coffee that Alduin got me hooked on, but nothing wrong with the Nescafe.
(side note, it's kinda good to see civvie stuff like this in the meals, gives you more of that comfort of home feeling. Plus i'm sure it saves on R&D and Manufacturing costs. ;) )

The Pain Hamburger, or hamburger bun was really dark, like it had been baked a little extra. This actually enhanced it, instead of being a detrement...gave it more of a chewy texture to the crust. Of course, the fact that it was only sliced halfway thru was interesting....whoopsie.

Both the PB and the honey needed kneading, and even after the PB still was kinda separated, and the honey was crystally....almost like getting a mouthful of honey flavored sugar. Still edible, made a good sandwich.

the Pineapple Orange sports drink kinda tasted like someone had mixed together Pineapple Tang with Orange Gatorade. Not unpleasant, definately different. Would be a good morning beverage.

Peaches were kinda soft, but still good. a nice ender after the has....Pie, Shepherds pie.

The beef jerky....Suprisingly, I liked it. It was a true jerked meat, in that it splintered or snapped when you bent it. It came in small nuggets, which was perfect to slowly savor and chew on while performing other tasks. They were a bit bland, could have used some spice or more smoke flavoring, but still impressive.

the M&m's were just like what you get at the store. Same with the Frost gum. No real suprises there.

the Shepherds Pie....

I've made Shepherds pie many, many times. it's a favorite of my wife. And it always included mashed potatoes. This was a meaty blend of vegetables, and the potato component was in the form of diced cubes. The corn and peas were a good accompaniment, and once I added the Hot Sauce it really came alive. But, I don't consider it a Pie, more of a Beef Hash.

Having said that....I could see this going 2 ways very easily...
1-Remove the bun and the dices, add a packet of mash, and it becomes a true shepherds pie. or,
2- Relabel it beef hash, and use it as a breakfast entree. Honestly, thats almost what it came across as to me. Pineapple orange drink, coffee, peaches, beef hash, tea with a packet of honey...Beef jerky and candy for later...To me that would be a breakfast for royalty out in the field or the camp. :)

Here's the video.

I watched the vid and thought it resembled beef hash as well. As a whole it looked like a good meal and kind of a comfort thing.
The first to bring you the MRE pizza stone.
