My Kazakh ration review

Post by shawker71 » Mon Oct 03, 2016 11:25 pm

Received a Kazakh ration from Prado Saturday and just now getting a chance to open it. I will have to do it in a couple parts since nobody in the house wants to help sample it. Some people just have no sense of adventure or taste. Ok, on with the show.

Breakfast:
tmp_16182-1003162050-1405139279.jpg
This was the meal I was the most skeptical about since it's main is patè and I am not a fan. It was quite filling.

Patè: Wow, this was delicious. I actually wanted more. It was smooth, tasted almost like corned beef for some reason and just fantastic on the crackers.

Vegetable Ragu: tasted mostly like a salsa so no complaints with this. It tasted good with the patè believe it or not.

Crackers: mostly tasted like a thick MRE cracker. Not hard like Polish crackers and you get PLENTY with this meal.

Jam: who can argue with jam?

Tea: was standard tea. Not overpowering and went well with jam and crackers.

Sugar: who puts 3 bags of sugar in a meal with 1 tea bag???

That's it so far. Lunch and dinner will come tomorrow. Hope you enjoyed part 1.

Nice review! Too bad nobody else would have helped review the first meal, it looked nice. And are those IRP "special diet" rations above the Kazakh ration?
Good luck and may your rations stay unspoiled!

Yes they are. I was about to post one of them up for trade if anyone was interested. I thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast in this. They know how to feed their troops.

Part 2 ~ Lunch
tmp_28627-1004161740-1976897736.jpg
Beef, Beef w/porridge, crackers, tea, SUGAR

Now the review:
Beef: large chunk of delicious roast beef in juice. There was a lot of fat in this but it separated easily. Absolute pleasure in eating this.

Beef w/ Porridge: this was quite nice and complimented the roast beef nicely. Pieces of meat were plentiful throughout.

Crackers: this pack was mostly nothing but smashed up. The crumbs went onto the plate to soak up the juices. The bigger pieces got a healthy dose of black currant jam I found at a local store. Of course it was made in Germany since they barely grow them here.

Tea: good cup of not to strong tea that complimented the meal.

Sugar: again......who in the back adds 3 MORE packs of sugar a ration???

Overall this was a delicious meal that seemed like home cooked. So far I am very impressed with the quality of this ration. Dinner will have to wait for tomorrow since I am fat and happy after this meal. I hope you enjoyed part 2

Part 3 Dinner

Pretty simple on this meal but still enjoyable.
Beef w/oats (i think)~ tasty, large portion and quite filling
Crackers: half were smashed this time....getting tired of crackers at this point.
Tea: still the same. Would have enjoyed a coffee.
SUGAR: not even going to comment on 2 MORE packets for a total of 80gms in this 24hr ration
Jam: still delightful

I hope you enjoyed my review. I enjoyed every minute of eating this and will probably try to score a few more.

Great review and pics! The beef and oats looks like the beef and buckwheat (kasha) that is commonly found in the Russian rations. It's kind of a love it or hate it dish, but I really like it. Russia has the highest per capita consumption of kasha, at 33 pounds per year (according to wikipedia). Russia, Ukraine, and Poland are some of the biggest consumers of kasha, but it's popular in many places in Eastern Europe. Thus far, in the rations I've seen, beef seems to be the most common protein mixed with buckwheat.

Thanks for sharing! :)

You are correct, it was buckwheat. When I wrote it I could not think of the word and just went with oats.

Glad we have another adventurous spirit out here. I didn't think the were too bad, then again I actually really enjoy kasha. I thought the Millet Kasha was quite different from anything I had before yet just as tasty. If you ever get anymore Russian type kasha try them with some saltines and a touch of hot sauce....Too Die For. Still have that IRP thing in the first pic? I've been dying to try one ever NNF did a review on one.

Cheers!

THANKS for the review, this kind of dishes can be a little strange for you (I mean US reviewers). Anyway eating this all day long is boring - in every part of the world.
Actually kasha is a general word for porridge or an kind of cereal grains processed a little (not only buckwheat)
The amount of sugar (not only the number of bags but the weight) is really amazing, probably it is a method to deliver cheap calories...

Delicious, I don't find these dishes strange. I actually enjoy the kasha dishes which is in part due to watching gundog's videos and hearing how much he enjoys them which prompted me to try them. The sugar amounts are just crazy and I don't know how you could apply them to your daily intake.

Gundog, I do still have that ration. I put it up for trade but nobody responded to wanting it. PM me if you want to trade something for it. I bought 2 hoping somebody that does vids would want it.
