Korean seafood, rice w/ vegetables freeze dried

Lucky me I got this, vary rare over here, ration :mrgreen:

Too bad I can´t read Korean, just the nutrition facts.

I can see the vegetables seem to be in large pieces did you see any chunks of shrimp?

That looks like a quality version of some of the Japanese and Chinese civilian freeze dried rice meals I have seen at the Asian Market.
I bought them for my kids and they liked them. Myself tried a Japanese civilian Chicken flavor rice foil pouch meal myself and added a small can of Chicken Pate to add calories. It had a packet of spicy sesame oil. For me that would be a good lunch selection for hiking.
I see these Korean Army meals on ebay at reasonable prices.

One thing I find interesting about the freeze dried style of rice meals is their history in the early 1960's U.S. advisers in Vietnam operating with some of the Highland tribesmen found they did not like the taste of US C rations and disliked the weight even more. The same tribes made their own version of dried rice/ dried fish dehydrated minced vegetables in small water proof sacks.
They would re-hydrated them on the trail and add hot fish sauce from a small jar. The sack was then closed until the rice swelled and fish popped back into shape. There is little weight or bulk. one only needs a canteen cup and heat tab to prepare.
Perfect for the mountains.

Norton, all seafood that came with it was a freeze dried "cube". As it was far to hot to me, I didn´t taste anything but my tongue burning :shock:

WRONG!

Koreans love HOT food!
And I love Korean food!
I keep a jar of kimchi in the fridge all the time, and make my own batches several times a year.
My limited exposure to European food tells me that most cooking is rather bland, and peppers are relatively new there.
I grew up in California, lots of Mexican cuisine, Mucho peppers.
But, you have to start easy, and work your way up the Scoville scale.

Cool review and pics housil! I'm curious what the North Korean Peoples Army rations are like but I've read that they are very similar to the ROK rations. I thought someone here in forums had posted something about NKPA rations but I cannot find it.

Depends what do you mean with "peppers"?
Is it just the spice "pepper" or the vegetables "bell peppers"?

I wouldn´t call our cuisine "bland", but "we" like the taste of the origin food so you can taste what you eat and don´t "kill" every flavor with hot spice so all you taste is a burning tongue (to me! :mrgreen: )

Bell peppers have no heat.
I was referring to the hotter varieties.IE: Jalapenos and hotter.

You are right, bell peppers are kind of "sweet". "Jalapenos" are a kind of Chili peppers, right? They are also common over here and available in every grocery.

Yes, Jalapenos are chili peppers, and are at the bottom of the heat scale.
Remove the seeds and membrane(white stuff) before using!
That's where the heat is .
You have to start slow eating peppers, and work your way up.
I like some heat, but as I age, my stomach is starting to argue with me... :lol:
I did find food in Europe very bland, but I only visited Italy, Spain, Greece, and Yugoslavia.
