My very first review, spurred on by the contest:

Image

Paper bag with foil lining. Easy to open, everything securely packaged.

Image

Main dish, Mexican Rice, Tortillas (for some reason) and apple sauce for desert.

Image

Accessories including both raspberry jam and drink.

Image

As others have pointed out, the drink mixing bag stands on its own, but hard to get a good shot of that. Some people are down on those zip lock bags, but I love 'em. Way easier than trying to mix in a cup. I fill to the second (fruit drink) line before adding powder.

Sports drink nutritional information.

Image

I prepared the rice first, since it required boiling water which I would later be putting the entree into.

Image

This bag also stands up in its own. Good thing because there's no way to re-seal it while it rehydrates.

Image

I don't quite understand the point of including tortillas instead of bread, so I improvised:

Image

Image

Didn't quite work out as the rolling made the tortillas tear. Tasted pasty and dry, but the jam & peanut butter were flavourful and good. I would have rather just had two peanut butters though. Less dripping through the holes.

Image

Rice is ready! Be sure to mix the rice thoroughly. Get into the corners, where the flavour is. Recommend stirring before and after adding water. Package says sit for 10 minutes, I recommend leaving it longer to ensure rehydration. Almost no spice, especially compared to American MRE Mexican Rice. Adding Mrs Dash or hot sauce would kick it up, but I didn't bother.

Image

Nutritional information for the entree.

Image

The main course has so many mushrooms, you can’t tell there’s a hunk of beef in there!

Image

Tender juicy meat; Easy to break apart with spoon.

Image

Too Salty though, and the sports drink chaser means even more sodium. Needs bread to sop up the gravy. Medium done-ness. No pink center, uniform colour. I'll definitely eat this again.

Image

Strawberry (not Raspberry this time?) Apple Sauce nutritional information.

Image

Its more like apple soup, and has that same brownish colour that all ration fruit seems to have. Tastes just fine. It is what it is: apple puree with a hint of strawberry.

I didn’t consume the FudgeeOs, coffee, tea, gum or candy. I did use the wetnap to clean up the jam drippings.

Hey thanks for the review and for including so many pictures! Nice detail too. That particular entree looks mighty tasty, but I suppose I'd have to be wary of the salt. What the heck are FudgeeOs by the way? I saw em in the misc items pic and see you didn't try them, but what are they?

Those are the same tortillas as in the MRE's. Heating them up with the main course in a FRH makes them somewhat edible, but the best is to sprinkle them with water and microwave them for 5-10 sec.

I have always found the amount of spreads in the IMP's too much for the one piece of bread. Probably half of it gets thrown away by the soldiers.

From what I've eaten, almost all fruit was still yellow. It's just the strawberry mashed with this one.

Didn´t know that the (German) "Dr. Oetker" company is making IMP parts :D

I corrected the title. Not sure what i was thinking there...

FudgeOs are chocolate wafers with chocolate icing in between. Sort of a chocolate Oreo cookie. They used to be popular when I was a lad. I'll eat some tonight and add pictures/information.

Dr Oetker is common here. Frozen foods mostly, but a lot of various grocery items.
