Its Mid Morning and time to eat some more Vintage Epa

A Drink and a Snack
epa50.JPG
Grapefruit Mix
epa51.JPG
Back of package, it has mixing instructions
epa52.JPG
Powder looked good, had a nice citrus smell
epa53.JPG
It mixed well, but was a small amount of drink, i watered it down a little and it was still good. Not too tart but you can tell its grapefruit
Lard Meat was first, I couldn't resist seeing what this was all about

In another post i attempted to translate this tin.
It says Lard Meat, then Pomeranian meat.

Which made me think it was made from puppies
But
A little help from our member shed some light on the topic. :D

It is a pork based pate/spread heavy in fat, ....and flavor. The Pomeranian meat is the the name of the company and it is actually "The Pomeranian Meat and Sausage Company"

So i gladly tested
epa54.JPG
The Label
epa55.JPG
A peek inside
epa56.JPG
Close up, its meat alright and i see some lard, so the translation isn't totally inaccurate
epa57.JPG
A chunk removed to taste
epa58.JPG
By this time i had finished the hartkek, so i found a similar sweet tea cracker to try and keep the flavor the same
Lardmeat is very tasty. Its a pork flavor not heavily spiced, almost like a mix between ham and spam and lard.

I wouldn't eat this too often while not in the field for health reasons but it was perfectly good as a mid morning snack.

Main Meal tme

Lentils and Hotdogs
epa60.JPG
epa61.JPG
1993 vintage seems fine, no serious bulging or damage to the tin
epa62.JPG
I had access to a normal stove today so we boiled as recommended
epa63.JPG
Boiled and ready to eat
epa64.JPG
P51 gets the job done
epa65.JPG
The smell is good, lentil soup, with a light meat scent, not sure what kind, but its not bacon
epa66.JPG
Closeup, everything looks safe to eat i stirred it up some, its hot
epa67.JPG
The flavor is good, very surprising quality for the age of the ration
epa68.JPG
The hot dogs taste like a game meat version of a hot dog, a little tougher and more flavorful than beef or pork.
Excellent meal.
The soup had a perfect texture and thickness, smooth flavor not too salt or spicy. The lentils were still good texture also, after 19 years i was expecting mush, but they had "bite" left.
The hot dogs were a game animal it seems, or maybe the spice is what I'm used to on game. They were very good, a little tougher almost like a jerky hot dog hybrid

Very filling, good flavor, this was heated, but maybe it would be ok cold as well.

I was still a little hungry after the lentils and it would be late before there was an opportunity to eat supper so i decided to try another item

Blutwurst

Tin looks good

Wow

epa76.JPG
Very soft texture, much different from the lardmeat earlier

Cracker view 1
epa79.JPG
Cracker view 2
Wow what can i say.
This has amazing color it was tricky to capture it for the review. In real life it is vibrant and dull shiny and matte solid yet liquid a real interesting entity just to look at

The texture was that of loose chopped organ meat that was barely held together by its own will power and no other apparent reason.
Once spread on a cracker it was a bit more manageable but still loose and chunky with parts of who knows what.

The flavor was good but odd to me.
It was a very familiar set of spices one we use in the USA, for a dessert
If you know what pumpkin pie taste like this is it:
Meat Pumpkin Pie

Overall i don't know if i liked this or not, the flavor of what i associate with pie just did not compute with a meat flavor
I would need try it again to decide

The blutwurst made me a little thirsty and i wanted to get the pumpkin pie flavor gone so i went for the other drink mix and the pack of candy.

Dandy
epa80.JPG
Dandy Candy
epa81.JPG
Its actually chewing gum, peppermint flavor
epa82.JPG
Several pieces, similar to MRE gum
epa83.JPG
Rock Hard, if you break a tooth on one, you can replace it with another piece of the gum
The flavor was a nice peppermint, not too strong.
The texture was that of rocks

It took a long time to chew it in to submission and have it form a gum like substance.
If it was fresh it would be fine.

Orange Drink
epa84.JPG
epa85.JPG
epa86.JPG
This one was a little caked
epa87.JPG
looked ok otherwise
epa88.JPG
Better than the grapefruit
The drinks are good, but for a small amount of liquid i would like more drinks or a mix for at least 2 cups/16 ounces

Supper Time

Goulash with something something
epa90.JPG
Tin looks good
epa91.JPG
Boiled and ready to go
epa92.JPG
looks like soup, smells meaty
epa93.JPG
Big chunks of meat and vegetables
epa94.JPG
The broth and veggies taste very similar to the MRE potato bacon cheddar soup that comes with the pork patty
epa95.JPG
The meat was sour
The meat was sour, maybe it was supposed to be, but i wasnt hungry enogh to eat more than a few bites of it.
I did eat a good portion of the other parts the broth and veggies.
Is the meat supposed to be sour? if so i dont like this, if not im glad im still alive :D

Needed the last jelly to forget the sour meat flavor
epa96.JPG
Apricot Jelly
epa98.JPG
Looks nice smells good
epa99.JPG
Tastes good, can tell its apricot i like this one better than the Italian jelly
Very nice jelly, just like the cherry clear and smooth strong fruit flavor.

And now an end to this review with dessert

Chocolate
epa100.JPG
Front
epa101.JPG
Back
epa102.JPG
Its white
epa103.JPG
Solid dusting of white, but not melted or deformed in any way, not bad for 19 years old
epa104.JPG
It seems anywhere there was air this turned white, including the inside of any air bubbles in the chocolate
The chocolate was fine to eat and tasted very nice.
It was a little brittle but melted well when eaten.

Good way to end a day

Hartkeks are very good!
They are very hard but chew easily, not drying at all.
I ate one pack dry before even opening the jelly, which has the calories of a meal i have heard.
That´s why they are called "Hartkeks" means "hard cracker" and nicknamed "armour sheets"
One package of "Hartkeks" has 545kcal, more than e.g. an MRE entree.
The meat (Gulasch entree) was sour, maybe it was supposed to be, but i wasnt hungry enogh to eat more than a few bites of it.

Sour?! It´s shouldn´t taste this sour  Usually the goulash tastes like a beef stew MRE entree. This is suspicious :!:

This was nothing like beef stew it was very acidic and tangy with the meat being quite sour.
I will take that to mean it was bad.

I ate a decent amount of it (just not the meat chunks) and survived pretty well, im glad i did not have more of the meat.

First few bites was ok, then my body wouldn't let me swallow the next bite of meat.
I just wasn't hungry enough (aka starving) yet.

It´s the "leaking" fat that turns chocolate white after a "certain" time. It´s no quality loss, just an optical "damage".

What do the matches mean?
I like the hedgehog thing, where can i find some decal's

Housil i meant that the cardboard box will surly wear out in the field faster than a airdrop-able MRE outer bag, (packaging not food amount)

I have about 70 more photos/7 posts left, stay tuned.
As I posted above, I have some left over stickers / decals - look here:
