RCIR menu 5 review

Post by ak70g2 » Sun Mar 04, 2012 3:52 pm

Last friday I had a meeting with my scuba diving instructor and shared an RCIR with him, as research for romanian ration prototypes I'll make. So, fellows, the RCIR, menu 5:

So, the content:

Opened cans:

Taste test:

Salade orientale: taste very good, a little un-salty but flavourful, fulfilling meal. I think it was without meat.

Tortellini pur boeuf: very, very good. Meaty, a very nice tomato sauce, perfect for field.

Potage champignon: creamy, some mushrooms bits, DELICIOUS. Very good to drink on a chilly day.

Salmon pate: again, delicious. I'm not fond on fish, but this I'll eat anyday.

Biscuits: enough for a day, very good, the salted ones suitable for dishes, the sweet ones very good with jam (strawberry in this menu) or plain, with hot chocolate or coffee/tea.

Desserts: dark chocolate - very good, fruit jelly - very good, caramels delicious, the rice with milk is the best military dessert I ever eaten.

Drinks - not used.

Final opinion: very good, very tasty, enough food for a day of "hike" in the mountains. :D

Very good pics and review ak70g2! One question, is the rice with milk a type of rice pudding?

Something like that. Anyway, is milk cream with some rice in, sweet and vanilla flavoured. And I like vanilla.

Thanks for the review and pics, these do look good.

Haven't been able to find a french ration yet over here, none the less a fresh one!

-Do these have some kind of utensil, or is that something issued separately?
-Also a little confused on the rice milk, is it one of the bars or one of the cans?

Is the yellow can. I hope to get some RCIRs soon, I'll send you one to try.

No utensil, you have to supply your own :D

Had Beef with carrots today - wasn`t too bad, (I`m not a carrot lover) but was tasty!
Very good and fresh rations - does someone taste the french muesli already? :?:

That is more like a rice pudding but very thick, at least the ones I ate. They have a very strong vanilla flavor.
I still have a a complete RCIR and some leftovers and believe me I'm always for the look to get some.
Peace!
