1980 - Norwegian Defense Ration

Post by Jamesmre1988 » Mon Jul 27, 2020 10:03 am

1980 Norwegian defense ration

Opening the box up there is a stove with all the ration bits inside 1 x pack of matches 2 x napkins 1 x 1980 rsp (dead man in a can) and an aluminium tin
When I started to open the aluminium tin I could smell this just old musty smell which got stronger as I peeled the lid back
Contents of the tin were
1 x salt sachet
2 x Nescafe coffee sachets
4 x sugar packets
3 x cake blocks
1 x soup block
1 x cocoa block
1 x dextrose in a plastic sleeve/bag
1 x pack of biscuits
1 x wooden spoon
I need to find out what this stink is so i start trying to get bits out and it's so tightly jammed in but I eventually get a cake block out and the rest comes out nicely, to my surprise it's the bag that the dextrose is in thats chucking up so bad! That and the biscuits, I tried a nibble on a biscuit and it just tasted a mix between rot old peoples clothes and the smell of the dextrose bag 🤮
After rinsing my mouth out with bleach I try the coffee out and that was perfect thank God so I then have the idea of putting some of the cocoa block in, I took a nibble on the corner and it seemed fine so I crumble half in and it mixes up well, it had this wierd tang once mixed up and wasnt very good if I'm honest.. maybe it's down to that nasty bag which is a shame
Everything else looks like it's pretty past trying so I wrapped it back up in its packaging, I still need to open the rsp but it got late and the wife refused to let me do it on the hob 🤣

Apologies for the crappy review

Fantastic, thanks for sharing it here, James! Facebook it'll just get buried. Some excellent history.

Get into the RSP yet?
All the best, Gents.

I still need to open the RSP and I've heard it's better to fry it in a pan with an egg if I want to be fancy 😂

Waiting for the wife to go out for an evening some time and I will dig it out!

cool lay out, the soup block is the one that makes everything smel and taste bad... we lived on these back in the days when i was in the army. the RSP is still good!
the 1 x dextrose tasted crap to back then.
