Great review! The only thing I do not like about the aussie PR1M rations is the texture of the re-constituted meals that contain meat, seem to me no matter how long I leave the meal to reconstitute (usually 15-20 minutes W/ hot water) the meat "bits" are always spongey in texture. Other than that they are excellent, except that they do stop the "works" for a day if you know what I mean. I guess they are low in fiber content.

Are the fruit grains like little bits of fruit leather
Yes a thick chopped up fruit leather would be a good comparison

So far so good, i think as long as you have enough water your pretty safe. But it may be different after a week of theses.

It took about 3 hours just to create this post, so its possible.

Time to finish up the last few items
1.JPG
Vegemite, Plum Fruit Spread, Raspberry Peach Candy, A Chocolate Ration..
9.JPG
And the Vitalife Well Grain Crackers
I went for the candy first, anxious to try this in a flavor other than musk
2.JPG
Not Musk Flavor
3.JPG
4.JPG
Yum these are great, like giant pez
Next was the Chocolate Ration
5.JPG
6.JPG
7.JPG
White Coating, looks good otherwise. Smells good also
The Chocolate was very good. Flavor was nice and it melted well to a smooth texture. The only strange thing was how brittle the bar was, if i had dropped it on a hard surface it would have shattered in to a bunch of delicious pieces.
8.JPG
The White layer had barely started and was just a surface blemish no penetration to the bar

Now for the Crackers and Spreads.

The crackers were all broken, and did have a slightly stale smell and taste, not the best.
10.JPG
Moving on, the infamous Vegemite
11.JPG
Second time testing this
It was ok, very salty, today i got the sunflower seed concentrate flavor.
12.JPG
Ill save some to try as soup
Finally the Plum Fruit Spread
13.JPG
The tube was fine, no leaks. These have a puncture seal you use the cap to break.
14.JPG
And it was very good!
15.JPG
I finished the plum spread, the candies and the chocolate, Vegemite im saving and crackers i tossed.

These were good, that fruit spread would have been great on the bars i ate earlier. Vegemite i should have put in the noodles, and the candy was a good shot of sugar , great stuff to get every day i am very happy with these rations and other than finding a way to boil water would be glad to use them in some rough places.

Awesome review mate. Sadly this is the closest I have come to a PR1M, they are really rare. I havent seen one on Oz ebay for over a year, when you guys said there were two cases for sale in the US I was surprised  .

The chocolate from my recent review had gone the same way as yours, but stangely my first reviews chocolate was perfect (that one was 10 yrs old ). The new one was only 18 months old :?

Good to see you gave the vegemite a go :D . One of my neighbors puts a spoonful in a ziplock bag with potatoes. Shakes the bag to coat them, then bakes them. They come out pretty good

Hello Name_not_found,

I'm wondering if the drink mixes in your PR1M felt a bit clumped together like mine does, when I opened one of the drink mix packages it appears as if moisture has gotten inside, but looks similar to yours. The granules aren't loose and are sticky. Was that the case with your drink mix? Did you feel ill after drinking them?

This is moisture getting in. Nothing to worry about unless it obvious the packet has been soaked in something.

The process to create drink mixed is much like freeze-drying, the item that goes through the process becomes super hydrophilic, sucking moisture from anything it can, even the air.

If there is no 02 absorber in the ration then its usually the drink mix that takes the hit for the team. Coffee usually goes before fruity flavored mixed packs.

Enjoy it
