True story: during my time in the service, on our first field exercise when presented with the rations we asked where was the hot water required to prepare the drink mixes.
Our instructor told us: there is no need for HOT water, you can consume it "SAF Style" i.e you pour the coffee straight into your mouth, swallow water from your canteen, gargle and swallow
After so many years: we're still looking for the HOT ENGINE which they neglected to issue us together with the rations
That'd be a sight: issuing HOT ENGINES with rations - beats the MRE's "rock or something" all hollow
As an asides: the latest production single meal rations now include a dessert along with an entree
