Q&D Norwegian Arctic Ration

Post by elandil » Tue May 03, 2016 7:18 pm

Ok, did a review last nite of a Norwegian Arctic ration. The menu I had was Pasta with Tomato Sauce.

It came in a nice little green package, everything packed nicely. Easy to open.

The main entree was a nice freeze-dried package, and it was nice that they had a fill line listed. I thought it was a zip-top, but never managed to get it to work right. Of course, that might have been an error on my part.

the pasta was a little unusual for me, for some reason I was thinking it would be a spiral or cylinder pasta, but it was a wavy design i've never seen before. It had pieces of Soy Protein in it to simulate meatballs, and they actually weren't bad. They gave it a unique texture, and helped carry the spices. To me, it was more of a Spanish style sauce, where i'm the type person that hears Tomato Sauce and my mind goes straight to italian. So, it was interesting. The Picante sauce really gave it a boost and had me thinking of Rioja and Tapas bars... ;)

The peanuts were peanuts. :|

It had a toffee energy bar. To me, it had a strong coconut undertone with hints of chicory lingering after. Not bad, would definitely make a good booster.

The chocolate bar was a good, dark chocolate. Unfortunately, mine had been hit by heat, so it did bloom. But, that didn't hurt the flavor, it was still good.

The raspberry drink was actually one of the best drinks i've had out of a ration. It did not have that "fake" raspberry flavor, it actually make me feel and think of actual seeded berries. I was very impressed.

Coffee, ok, not too bitter, good flavor. I've seen that brand before in some of the other Euro rations. Suprised there was no sugar or cream.

All in all, a good ration. Great for on the trail, lightweight but still filling. I give it a major thumbs up.

YouTube review to follow soon. ;)

These Norwegian Arctic Rations are some of the best Military Rations out there - awesome look into what seems to be a vegetarian menu! :)

Thanks for sharing! Four seasons in Georgia ... I am still laughing about that :D

As far as I know Scandinavians drink their coffee black, that is why no sugar or whitener is in the package.
