Australian Defense Forces Ration Pack Menu E

Post by gundog4314 » Mon Sep 29, 2014 4:28 pm

Hey guys,

I have been trying to get my hands on one of these for a little over a year. Finally found an actual ADF Soldier that sent me this bad boy. it was packaged in January 8th of 2014. I did a complete review which will be posted on my youtube channel this upcoming week.

I know a few of you guys have been trying to track one of these down yourselves. If I ever get the opportunity to snag another one I'll be sure to post it here so one of you can try it for yourselves.

Sorry the pictures are reversed

Cheers

Wow, what a great surprise!

Looking forward with great appetite for your video review. Hope you didn't make gschultz's mistake with the vegemite!

and just whats wrong with Vegemite?

Really looking forward to seeing this one. Looks like it has a lot in common with the NZ ORP.

I think that those many are the products of the same company.

Nothing wrong with vegemite. As I've reported, I finally got a jar of Marmite and its appeal is growing on me.

But in his first taste of the stuff (on video) gschultz put about a teaspoon of it on a cracker. His reaction was...interesting.

If you've never tried it, be sure to use a dab of it small enough that it would take a forensic team to detect it.

Waited all week for the review on Youtube, and it was worth it. OUTSTANDING job. I made comments there, but I'll summarize: I was mystified by the many spreadable options, but only one packet of crackers. I thought that any "British" ration would have a lot more tea in the brew kit, and I was floored by the chocolate overload in this ration. FOUR chocolate items. Finally, "musk" candy? Really? You described it as "odd" and I bet that was understatement to the max!

Gundog
I just watched the vid and it was very informative. You did a great job. That ration reminds me of an ancestor to the old 24 hour Jungle ration. The Aussie's seem partial to the tube method of packing jellies jams and other paste.
The tube of sweet milk is a new one for me.That item would be very versatile on a long camping trip. No worries for sweet coffee, tea or even a dab to thicken soup base. I also noticed the mix of canned , ready to retort pouch and freeze dried entrees.
Good to provide variety for the taste buds. I have packed for three day mountain hikes/camping and like to mix MREs with Mt House FD and a few small tins of deviled ham or potted meat. As for this ration, if you had two a man would be set up pretty good.
The off the shelf thick Jack Link's bar is a great idea. They are one of the best.
By the way I do like Vegemite and Maramite. A friend brought me a jar of the stuff from Australia and I have liked ever since.
