Hi Guys

@Rabidwolf: I opened the can about halfway and bent the half upward at a 90 degree angle then put it about 5cm above a fuel tablet. Any ideas of how to make this process work better?

@rationtin440: hahaha no there was absolutely nothing diabetic friendly about it!

Jeff Plant: I would try popping just a few holes in the lid. Instead of opening it. Maybe raise the can a little higher from the heat. It would take longer to heat the food inside, but it also might allow a more even heating. These are little tips I've read from people trying to heat MCI's and Type C Rations.

Um, open it about 90% with your 'John Wayne' (P-38) BEFORE heating, and bend the top 180 degrees.
You do not want to try opening it while hot !!!

Also, you can make a stove, using another C-rat can. Use a 'Church Key' several times around the bottom of the side.
Drop in a lit tab, set the ration on top, Et Voila !

Looks as though that vintage of SADF rations still borrow from the FOur Blessed Menus period of British ratpack history.. http://www.arrse.co.uk/wiki/The_Four_Blessed_Menus

Does SADF webbing include mess tins ? As I suspect they did and that would be what you cook in, either the tin opened and put into water in the mess tin or the contents poured out if the tin into the mess tin and heated up with a drop of water added

Added. Yep. Look just like British Army ones

Lots of heating tabs is probably beacsue they drink lots of hot brews.....
