I finally got around to trying the British Mushroom Omlette from a 2006 Halal pack (One of the newer menus included Lamb Tajine and Lemon Spounge pudding)
Made 04 06, April 2006.
Ingredients
Whole Egg (contains Preservative: Potassium Sobate, Citric Acid), Potato, Mushrooms, Cheeder Cheese, Red and Green Peppers, onion, Vegitable Oil, Modified Potato Starch, Salt, Parsley, White Pepper.
The Meal,
The whole pouch is filled with it.
After 10 minutes boiling, the meal just slid out of the pouch and looked like this. Quite colourful, you can see the red and green peppers.
Cut in half, The Review
It was OK, Quite hard to describe. It tasted like an omlette, eggy with a hint of cheese, you could taste the peppers and mushrooms if there was one in the peice you ate, It was quite rich and after a few bites I did think, 'O this is going to be hard to eat'. The texture was OK, pretty much like an Omlette prehaps a bit thicker and more chewy like overcooked scrabbled eggs. I'm not massively keen on omlettes in general to be honest, but it was OK. Thats about it really just OK, I think Housil came up with the best description which fits this 'Swiss = Neutral'. Not somthing I'd be overjoyed in having again but if I was hungy enough as the sites motto is 'Everything taste good when you're hungry'.
I've not tried the US MRE Omlette so I cannot compare, I suppose its a change from Beans

Though I do think our MOD is slowly becoming the US DOD, Omlette and Tabassco in rations, MOLLE inspired webbing (So similar US and UK pouches are interchangable! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osprey_body_armour )
