1981 Japanese Emergency Food Ration - Freeze Dried

Post by SwissW » Wed Apr 05, 2017 8:45 pm

This is an interesting find I made the other day.
Emergency food is a big deal over here in Japan. For obvious reasons.

This particular set is from 1981 and has a pretty sweet vintage NASA theme going on.
I was surprised to see who it was made by, at least the food items.

The fuel can feels like there is just a small rubber ball inside. Guess it shrunk over the years.
The cracker cans feel like there are a bunch of crumbs inside.
The freeze dried food cans feel good. Loose, dry content inside.

Will give it a taste test within the next few days and update here.

Is it possible that the two freeze dried entrees are the same as some of the freeze dried food found in early US MREs?

Imported by Empire Foods Inc, Tokyo.

Japanese calendar used. Year 56 of the Showa Era --> 1981.
Top one is packaging date and bottom is import date. Roughly two months later.
