I just saw this update on the Soylent bars - sales halt/refunds:

http://blog.soylent.com/post/1517206020 ... oylent-bar

Excerpt:
It has recently come to our attention that a small number of our customers have experienced gastrointestinal issues after consuming Soylent Bars. As a precautionary measure, we are halting all Soylent Bar purchases and shipments and are advising our customers to discard any remaining bars in their possession.

[snip...]

We will be reaching out via e-mail to all Bar customers to offer a full refund.

Hmm, I wonder why the bars were giving folks issues?

Now when NNF made this thread, I wanted to post this picture - but refrained. Now I cannot help myself..!

Heheh :)
In all seriousness, I still would love to try Soylent out eventually, it looks like a great product - too bad about the bars being recalled - back to the drawing boards for them!

Googling for "soylent gastrointestinal issues" turns up some interesting posts.

Steve...heh heh...yeah, that's exactly what I thought when I first saw the name. Naming a food bar/drink "Soylent" seems about as good an idea as naming my new MRE "Donner Party Dinner". :-)

Yeesh - I just read some folks were getting violently ill from those things. Really makes me wonder what went wrong there.

Well, I suppose the name is catchy - I'll give it that!

Another part of me thinks, how many people even think of that silly old Sci-Fi when they hear the product name? Is it only a small percentage, or do most people get a chuckle at the name? I wonder..! :)

I dunno, you name a new MRE that and it would probably still sell pretty well - I would try one out. ;)

Saw a documentary on this. The name was chosen intentionally to reference the movie. Also, the rats scurrying around and the fact it was all mixed by hand turned me away. Not overly surprised there was some contamination.

Granted, the show was a few years old and they certainly have updated their system since. I'm still holding out for a lower price before I take the plunge.
