Freeze dried ice cream

Post by housil » Mon Jun 09, 2014 5:14 pm

We were talking about "freeze dried ice cream" before ->here<-.

Today we did a trip into the "Spessart" national park. It was the hottest day of the year with 35°C (100F)

So nothing say´s more, give that freeze dried ice cream I have a try.

So how was it?
First to say - not cold.
It felt in your month like you chew very sturdy styrophone.
It tasted great, like chocolate, vanilla and strawberry ice cream.

Ahh yes, I remember having one of the "Astronaut" Ice Cream Sandwiches... If you go in with the expectation of ice cream, you will be sorely disappointed.
I'm using my computer's spare resources to help find cures for diseases, analyze astronomical data, render 3D animations, simulate new materials and run climate models--what is your computer doing? http://boinc.berkeley.edu/ Or ask me for help!

Yes, they are kind of weird but tasty. You can get them at your local wallyworld.

I have always had a sweet spot for this freeze dried ice cream! I think its really cool that the Military decided to include the freeze dried ice cream sandwich in the newer MCW's.

I like these :)

They are always broken, but always good.
The strawberries are also very good in FD form.

housil,
I've enjoyed and followed your posts here for years. Where in the Smoky Mountains will you be visiting? I go there about twice a year to hike with my son. That's what got me interested in MREs. We use them for shorter hikes, resorting to Mountain House freeze dried food when we're in the back country longer than overnight. I hope you enjoy your visit this fall.

Housil: when you go to the Great Smoky Park, if you possibly can, you need to go drive thru the area at the west end called "Cades Cove".
It is a loop road through a hanging valley and will remind you exactly of Bavaria! Simply beautiful.
Unfortunately, it is the opposite side [Tennesee] from Bryson City. You would need to go over the crest road toward Gatlinburg... But it is well worth your while.

Regardless, GSNP is something you will enjoy no matter what you do!
