2 x Meal Kit Supply

Post by housil » Sat Nov 09, 2013 3:06 pm

This week Mrs Housil and I drove down to Italy to meet Kman.

We made our 700km way over the Alp Mountains

The Swiss/Italian border on top of that mountain ahead

The border at 2.115Meter (7.000feet)

The lake and village of "Montespluga" up there

Elev. 1.908Meter

We drove around the lake at lunch time

and took a break

Thanks to Kman, I got my hands on some Meal Kit Supply rations:

Image
The civilian style (right) #5 "Penne w/ vegetables and sausage crumbles"
The MRE style (left) breakfast one #6 "Apple Maple Oatmeal"

The opened #5
Image
First thing I noticed, the different FRH with instructions in four languages - even in German

The next different thing
Image
Don´t put the meal inside but wrap the FRH around

While eating the well known fruit salad
Image

I opened the #6 oatmeal ration
Image
All items seemed familiar from the US MREs, except the FRH

Also heating the oatmeal dish next to the penne
Image
on the snow

They worked very well even at this elevation and close to zero

That´s the first time I had a WSB with that changed formula
Image

It seemed more "fluffy" to me

I liked it!

The accessory packet

with coffee mate (!) and napkin

The #5 Penne w/ vegetables and sausage crumbles
Image
Due to Mrs Housil, it was really delicious with a nice spice(y) taste

I know it´s a breakfast dish, but we eat continental so I had it for lunch

warm oatmeal

and maple muffin top

I really liked that oatmeal/maple dish. Very great taste, very filling

Great post!

That scenery is just fantastic, almost too good to be true

Were the heaters salt water activated or normal?

The result...
It´s more "fluffy" like a toast bread and a little more thick. Also the taste is slightly different - better if do you ask me. Not this sweet anymore

I agree with Ms. Housil, the Penne w/ vegetables and sausage crumbles does have some kick.

Great review and pics as always housil! Looks like a nice warm meal for a cold journey over the alps - probably a great deal better than what Hannibal's troops were eating a few thousand years ago
