Anyone tried dried sliced beef?
Re: Anyone tried dried sliced beef?
Yup!
As is, it's extremly salty...
But, It makes fantastic SOS ( Sh*t on a Shingle)

And that Hereford Roast Beast in a can is actually pretty good!

Rinse it first in hot water to wash out some of the salt and then use it in your favorite SOS recipe (aka creamed chiped beef), serve on a shingle (toast)
Re: Anyone tried dried sliced beef?
I tried it once in an 1991 dark brown MRE (escalloped potatoes with ham) and it didn't work out. Even after I heated the pouch up. Since then I haven't tried it since. Something about dried beef that doesn't look and taste like beef jerky doesn't seem to appealing.

It's made for cooking, I'm not sure If It's edible straight out of the jar...

Is good but is too salty even with several changes of water.

i dice it up, and throw it in with cream cheese, horseradish, hot sauce, and diced onions to make a kick ass cheese ball.
