Erbswurst with Bacon

Post by Name_not_found » Mon Jun 18, 2012 4:45 pm

Fresh from a German supermarket halfway across the world, today's review is:

The mythical Erbswurst, with Bacon!
eb1.JPG
eb2.JPG
A peek inside, 6 Large tablets, somewhat crumby on the edges but solid, very good pea soup smell with a nice meaty undertone
eb3.JPG
One chunk for 1/4 liter (1 per 8 oz of water)
eb4.JPG
Bubbling and dissolving after adding hot water

mmmmm
Very Good!

The cube melts in to a somewhat thick soup, that tastes very close to homemade, and nothing like store bought powder.
The bacon flavor is mellow and not too salty but still noticeable.

I think im about ready for another serving now. :D

The mythical Erbswurst, with Bacon!

Nice review and the Erbswurst soup is also one of my favourite soups.

It´s one of the oldest (maybe THE OLDEST) instant meals, dated back to 1867.
Used as "iron ration" by German soldiers in the Franco-Prussian War (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franco-Prussian_War).

Erbswurst is basically a mixture of beef bouillon powder and pea flour (Peasemeal).

It´s also called the "lazy housewife meal".
