Review: Morrocan Style Salmon Lunch

Post by Big_jo » Tue Dec 08, 2009 8:59 am

One of around 4 fish based lunch packs available here in the UK, manufactured by John West. They sell for about £1.90 each.

I opted for the Morrocan Style wild pink Salmon, with bulgur wheat, potato, chick peas, peppers and carrots in harrisa dressing.

Date on the base says it can be storred unti June 2012, so it should be in-date for the apocalypse!
It comes in a foil bowl, and is probably best served cold, although you might be able to squeeze it into a FRH.

So, let's inspect the contents:

The smell is rather pungent at first, as is the taste. After a while I got used to it, and found it to be a fairly tasty little meal. There is a good ammount of fish in there, and it has a mix of vegetables in it, giving a nice mix of textures and flavours.

I think this could work as a main entree in a cold mre, although it is a bit lacking in the calorie deparment:

200 Calories
13.2g protein
33.6g carbohydrate
1.4g fat
7.4g fibre
0.8g salt

That said, it contains lots of fibre, so you take the good with the bad.
Anyone got any ideas about side dishes that could work with this?

Thanks for the review. Looks interesting although I'd pass since I like my fish fresh (prefer to catch and cook the same day :)).
