A delaminating mess - but I was able to successfully peel it open without officially opening and wrecking this rare retort of rot.
It's a twisted interpretation of chicken parm, with noodles and a lot of liquid sauce.
It smells like rancid glue or something. Saving it for display.

Thanks to cortexmelon for hooking me up with this thing a hot minute ago.
Always wondered about chicken parm .... Craig's holy grail and he's probably still lookin for it.
These never turned up in his 1996 or was it 1997 cases. Only a duplicate of Chili Mac or something.. I forget now.
Well, here it is.
Kindof uninterested to pursue further.. seems a shame to open it all the way just to confirm it's sour state.... yep. Saving it for now.

neat to look at, anyway

i don't really do anything but new and edible MREs after about 1970, what's the backstory on this being a rarity?

Unfortunate about the aging, but atleast you got a nice display piece of it!

"Rancid glue" your descriptions are perfect, or at least close enough. The nose knows "that $@it ain't right!", sometimes Canola will turn really gnarly with varnish or paint like odors, but I don't see that listed.

Another possible culprit, Parmesan is cultured by pretty much the exact same bacteria that is responsible for stinky foot odor. So stinky feet in a retort pouch past its "Best By" date is pretty close I betcha. :)
