i used to buy the stagg chili in the little paper box a while back. it was really good it was not the same as regular hormel chili. it was better.

also at food city our local grocery store they have tomato products in that exact same box. it is a store brand called food club. you can tomato sauce and diced tomatos. just thought it was odd it is the only item i know of that comes in that type of box anymore.

Hormel has some new menus for their delicious Compleats line of their tray entrees:

I did pick up some of those the other day at the Wal-mart - but I haven't had a chance to try them yet. At least we're getting some good variety in these things!

It may well be the case that due to the short supply lines and fewer disasters we've had - you don't generaly see the number of no-need-to-fridge ready meals over here. Most of the lines I've seen this side of the pond require fridging or freezing..

Tins and packets often comprise components...

Of course - you then have Westler producing retort-pouched stuff for the military...

Could it be something related to how the early convenience foods were marketed over here back in the 50s? Birds Eye pies, for instance, recommending that the purchaser glaze it with their own egg.. and "you bake it yourself"...

But it'll be interesting to see if they are being sold over here.

Just a minor point of irritation here, but I hope you understand that when you talk about "over here," only you know where "over here" actually is.

I could always try to type more "Southern" so you know I'm from the US South:

"Y'all need to git on over to yonder "Profiles" section and put in y'all's country so we kin know where in tarnation y'all's from."

Notice the liberal use of "y'all"...and how in one sentence, I was able to use "y'all" three different ways - as a noun, a possessive, and as a contraction! Woohoo...it's Southern Grammar Sunday!

In case any of you are interested, my local supermarket here in Australia now sells Compleats. I haven't tried one yet.

FYI, we also get the Stagg chili here. I prefer their 'Lite' chili - I found the regular version a little too fatty for my palate. The taste is OK but I still need to add Tabasco.

This got me thinking, so I pulled out a chili n' spuds from the pantry, stabbed it to death with my swiss army knife for ventilation, and nuked it in my overly powered microwave for 60 seconds. I'm eating it as I type... it's pretty good, but would be better if the chili had beans. After a few bites I decided to add tabasco, it tastes better but after two bites i'm hiccuping ( I WAY overdid it... ) Overall, it's good stuff.

Hormel Compleats used to be cheap. Now they are way overpriced.
