From the internet;

some of the effects

Vitamin and/or mineral deficiencies
Dizziness and/or fainting (due to extreme calorie cutting)
Negative side effects on “good” cholesterol levels
Pressure and strain on organs (kidneys and liver, for example)
Burning off lean muscle and tissues
Osteoporosis
Depression and irritability
Become more prone to developing an eating disorder (anorexia or bulimia)
In extreme cases, heart attack or stroke can be a result of crash diets
Hair Loss

The possability of one of those made me think twice, and hit the gym (could do with hitting it more to be honest but once the exams are over I'm free for 3 months to relax and work out :D

Gaz, to see such tremendous side effects you need a looooooooooooooooooong time of malnutridition!

As a member of a pentecostal church (UPC), I did a religious lent of 40 days in 1987. No eating at all - just drinking while working as a construction worker. I lost only 3kg within 40 days!

You are right, a eat-the-half-diet means also to eat the half of the good and neccessary stuff too - but MREs are enriched with lots of good stuff.

I wouldn´t worry.

JJJJ...sounds like it's working for you, but just be careful...crash dieting rarely ever works. I'm just saying from my personal experience. It's usually a quick, temporary weight loss...that usually comes back since you can't maintain that type of diet over a long period of time. Just watch your portion sizes and you can pretty much eat whatever you want...in moderation.

Anyway...congrats on losing 55 lbs...just toss in a run a couple times a week and some lifting and you'll be good to go...good luck.

Congrats on the weight loss! I myself have lost 60 lbs since the end of Feb. 2009. MRE's have been a big part of that! My wife thought I was nuts at first...but it works very well. I have been picking out an entree for lunch, and save the snacks for later! No, this is not a "MRE diet", but I use the entrees as a lunch. The calories and fat content are about right for weight loss, and the nutrients are all there. I do, however, work out regularly (weightlifting & bicycling), so I don't keep the calorie count as low as I would if I weren't exercising. I usually eat a normal dinner portion, but have stopped going back for seconds (my greatest weakness). As for all the MRE extras...I eat one as a snack in the evening, The higher calorie ones (poundcake, etc.) I split with the wife or one of the kids. The entrees are much better tasting than Nutrisystem and some (veg. manicotti) are not only larger portions, but more filling with similar calorie count. Must use tabasco, though! Obviously the drink mixes are out...too many calories (except the sugar free ones!).
Keep up the good work...but don't let the calorie intake drop too low.

As I lost half of my intestines in an accident, I can´t eat more than 3.3g of fat per 100ckal (low fat diet), otherwise I will die at the bathroom...

MRE´s entrees are "low fat" allways :D and I will getting well after a diet "mistake" if I eat MREs.
(I really areppriciate kman will add a nutrition list here!!! )
They are a good source of everything a body need without to much fat and sugar  especiall for me! An entree makes you (me) full allways with eating eat enough calories (~350-400) without gaining weight nor starving.

Better "diet" than all other "weight watchers", "low carb", "I don´t know..."

I feel lucky...I only lost 8 inches of large intestine...and it hasn't affected me at all (at least from a diet standpoint). I am surprised...since the doctors said I probably would see some changes. Hope you're feelin good!
