As is, it's extremly salty...
But, It makes fantastic SOS ( Sh*t on a Shingle)

Rinse it first in hot water to wash out some of the salt and then use it in your favorite SOS recipe (aka creamed chiped beef), serve on a shingle (toast)

I tried it once in an 1991 dark brown MRE (escalloped potatoes with ham) and it didn't work out. Even after I heated the pouch up.
Since then I haven't tried it since. Something about dried beef that doesn't look and taste like beef jerky doesn't seem to appealing.

i dice it up, and throw it in with cream cheese, horseradish, hot sauce, and diced onions to make a kick ass cheese ball.
