Late 2015 MCW no.7 Beef Stew

Back to one of my all time favourite types of rations. I absolutely love MCWS and LRPs. So far they've always seemed to be slightly better thought out than the basic MREs and either I've been very lucky with contents or they just come with consistently better stuff or a bit of both.

Had productive morning despite waking a little late, but I'm off work anyway, my regular job only involves one saturday a month.
So got up, coffee time. Shower, coffee time again  :D Porridge eaten, head to town, pick up a few service parts, home again, oil and filter changes on a couple of cars i've got here. Coffee time again (pattern emerging?) chop some wood... Lunch time.. what'll I have? Ooo MCWs on hand. Decided to treat myself, picked out the beef stew...

I love getting these, but being in Ireland I've got to have them sent over and that makes them rather expensive but I love them so I'm prepared to pay for the pleasure. I find them tasty and super convenient.
It's amusing to think that I may be the only Irishman to eat one of these in Ireland. Maybe there's another but I've never even seen one mentioned here (Ireland, not the forum).

Got this one and a bunch of others from Wats of this forum and MreMountain. Would be lost without him in terms of getting these rations
Let the review commence

Opened it up, contents were:

-accessory pack MCW
-Spoon
-tropical punch beverage base
-marble pound cake TFF
-Mountain house beef stew
-toasted corn kernels
-smoked almonds
DAMN!! It's like someone specced out the exact combination I was going to want, onto a winner here.

Heated some water, filled up the main entree bag, poured in the Tobasco sauce from the accessory pack, made the coffee, small amount of water no creamer no sugar. Poured cold water into my glass with the beverage powder.
Savour the questionable military coffee... I've actually got to liking it despite being a bit of a coffee snob grinding up my own etc.

So I got out the almonds and the corn kernels, ate all the almonds almost immediately, couldn't help it and half the corn (normally if i was eating this ration while camping or fishing i'd save the corn and almonds for snacking later).
I love both of those sides.

Approximately 12 minutes later I poured out the stew, smelled great, looks great for what it is, had deliberately made it a little more watery, prefer the stew that way as opposed to the egg ones or the chili mac etc which i like thicker, like a good woman with something to hold on to

This stew reconstituted perfectly and tasted great for somethinj that's been dried out and sat in a bag for a couple years, I've actually had much worse food served to me that was supposed to be made fresh. I know they aren't haute quisine but I think mountain house do a good job with the mains in these.
Savoured my tasty hot stew which i'd supplemented slightly by dropping in the other half of the corn kernels. Perhaps not to everyone's taste but i like it.

Knock back the glass of tropical punch beverage, the fakest, reddest drinks I've ever had, they stain the glass if you leave them too long, the US sure does have some much more lax standards about additives then the EU... but It's tasty.

Time for the marble pound cake... man that thing was f*cking delicious. Way too sugary and artificial to be anything but terribly unhealthy, but delicious.

Taken in the context of a military ration eaten in the middle of a day of work around the yard here, I haven't got a bad thing to say about this one.
Eat one of these and you will not be hungry. The main alone is HUGE portion and enough to keep you going most of the day.

A few pictures to follow.

I actually just recently obtained this exact meal. Your review has heightened my already high anticipation.

Well I hope it lives up to that. I really enjoy them. The freeze dried main allows them to be far superior to the regular MREs and as I said, it seems like the other items are always better thought out.
This one is definitely one to keep you going for most of the day, that stew portion is huge.

My Beef Stew MCW has pretty much entirely different components inside, namely a Spice Poundcake and cookie, chocolate covered. I've had 3 MCW's for a little while in the collection but haven't actually tried any of them out yet.

They do vary the contents but what I meant was they always seem to put "nice"/ suitable combinations of stuff in there

Oh yes the Beef Stew MCW I have seems to have pretty much the stuff that I love the most in it.

I usually really like the combinations I get with these and LRPs.
I recently got a chili Mac with vegetable crackers and bacon cheese spread. Delighted would be an understatement.

Oh man that sounds like a great combination. Some M&M's and smoked almonds too would make it amazing.

There was a bag of peanut m+ms in that one but toasted corn instead of almonds. In the one I reviewed in this post it had no m+ms , but the corn and the smoked almonds together
