2010 mfr HDR

Post by sourwes » Tue May 10, 2016 6:44 pm

Greetings. This is my 1st review. A member asked if the 2010 HDR were still good because unclesamsoutlet has a clearance on them.

http://www.unclesamsretailoutlet.com/10 ... p/9266.htm

Here it goes:
I have some photos but since I have been unable to figure out how to post them on this site yet, i will continue without them for now. The meal was HDR menu 2 and contained the following:
Red beans and rice
Lentils in bbq sauce? Box actually said pasta in tomato sauce lol
2pks crackers with peanut butter and apple jelly
2 strawberry pop tarts, 2 fig bars and 1 shortbread cookie
Spoon, salt, pepper, red pepper, napkin and wet nap and a pk of matches

Entrees were heated in a canteen cup of water on a hexamine stove and 1 tab was enough to heat both entrees. The red beans and rice were firm in texture and surprisingly good although slightly bland, but the red pepper fixed em right up. The lentils in sauce were slightly sweet and tangy, and still nice and firm. Kind of reminded me of baked beans.

The crackers although slightly broken, hissed upon opening and were just fine. The peanut butter and jelly were both excellent although I don't think I kneaded the jelly enough. The fig bars and shortbread cookie were in excellent condition and tasted just fine.

The only disappointment was the pop tarts. They were still good to eat but over time the crust has absorbed most of the moisture in the filling, giving them a dryer texture than normal. This was a dual review as both myself and my wife ate the meal. We both agreed overall the meal was still very much palatable and I ordered 2 cases from the site above.(I bought an infantry patch for .99 to qualify for the $100 free shipping offer.

Oh yeah...there's that red beans and rice and bbq lentils in all their glory! I'm with you on the blandness - but I think that's the point of the HDR's - to make them as acceptable as possible to many different people who might be in need. Thank goodness they add some spices to the HDR!

$50 per case shipped HDRs? That's one of the best deals I've seen come out of the Uncle Sam's Outlet store to date, thanks for the heads up!
