Here's a fun page on the slightly harder to find Ration snacks we all love & search for.

P.S. first starting with a FSR Blueberry Turnover: a nice & moist, sweet, soft blueberry filling treat. There were even small blueberry pieces in the filling. Almost like a Blueberry Toaster Strudel without the pastry flakiness.

Here's a 2002 LRP Chocolate Covered Cookie & a 2000 MCW Chocolate Sports Bar.. this also may have come out of a Food Packet Cold Weather.. but I'm not sure. Those are pretty rare by the way and wish I'd bought them when I saw em last in like 2011. I think they were made between RCW's & MCW's for like a year or so. I bought this Chocolate Sports Bar just recently offline on it's own.

Both were amazing. I ate them both at the same time which was rather decadent. The Chocolate Covered Cookie is always a coveted ration commodity & everyone loves them & are familiar of not only their sheer goodness , but also their 25+ year shelf life! The Chocolate Sports Bar is amazing, much like what Powerbars used to be like back in the 90's before they added soy protein in them. I wish I had a 100 of both.. such good Ration Snacks.

A Mocha Dessert Bar from a FSR. These are amazing - a chocolate fudge with coffee flavor that tastes of such quality.. if I only had a 100 of these too...!

This Mocha Dessert Bar really tastes like a shelf stable fudge of sorts. But of quality fudge that is rich in creamy texture, with a quality chocolate coffee flavor that tastes of nothing artificial.

It just may be my top 5 favorite ration dessert of all time...!

Excellent reviews and pics... I would have to say that the snacks in the MREs have always been my favorite part of the meal. And I do so love those chocolate covered cookies... Seemed to last forever and were very satisfying!

Thankyou, hannonmc! I was a little late for my next update, but here we go!

First off I am about to post another string of the finale of this Chocolate Fudge Bar from a 1983 Long Range Patrol Ration Chicken Stew..

I will give a hint that this bar was barely edible despite the appearance.. it seemed like the Sorbitol & Polysorbate etc. preservatives with the Hydrogenated Oils couldn't keep this puppy tasting "normal" after 31 years.

And as for that Fruit Pastry from a original salmon colored HDR from 2003 - these things are incredible. Potentially an acquired taste, and a tad dry - the smell is a sweet apple cinnamon essence. I would buy these from anyone if given the chance and stored for that special occasion.. I have 2 packs left in sealed HDRs..! A rare commodity!

Thanks for the sacrifice! Sorry to hear the older Fudge Bar wasn't edible. For the love of all that is holy, please don't open any Yellow HDRs just for the pastry, heh. I know you mentioned this was from a Salmon one, just making sure.

Yessir, Ruleryak! I have opened 1 Yellow HDR & saved all the packaging for my display - it doesn't even look opened!

I won't ever open another one, the allure is gone after having the one. Remember my neat review on it? Was not a cheap ration I think it ran me about $45.

That apple pastry is from a 2003 Salmon HDR.

Here's a 2003 HDR Fig Bar - I swear I think this thing got slightly fermented it was odd and the sugar separated on the edges into a strange caked sugar... thing.... I ate it anyways. Well.. except for those weird crusty ends.. those were just kinda nasty even to my standards.

A Ration is a terrible thing to waste.

Oh Heck, why not show you guys HDR Shortbread too? Hey - why not put the strawberry jam from the HDR right on the Shortbread making the 1st official documented HDR Strawberry Shortcake!

Needless to say the Shortcake was Ration-tastic! Hmmm! Not one BIT of rancidity after 11 years.

1998 RCW (Ration, Cold Weather) Oatmeal Cookie Bars.. or what I call: Food of the Gods. If you haven't had one of these, it is just like the rectangular block ones in vintage MRE's, or Food Packet Survival, General Purpose.

I haven't had any of these. But they look, and sound, as though they're pretty close to the HobNob biscuits from McVitie's... And those are delicious. I'm going through a package right now that are topped with something like Cadbury chocolate... Extra delicious!
Any Brits or Scots on the forum who have had them both?

Thank you for mentioning the McVitie's HobNob biscuits, I've never tried those before! I'll have to see if I can locate some!!
